Mike Trout's first-inning home run against the Marlins was calculated at 456 feet. It's the sixth-longest homer of his career -- his first 450-footer since 2015, when he had a 471-foot shot at Coors Field.

And Grineke throws a meatball on a 3-2 count to Bandy with the bases loaded and baby you can guess the rest.
Fukking guy, go after him on 3-2, you walk him, you walk him, costs you a run, groove a mistake, costs you three.
I thought Cy Young Award winners knew that, I was a dopey scholastic catcher and even I know that.

In welcome news, the Pirates have announced that right-hander Jameson Taillon will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A on Sunday, which should put him in position to return to the majors by late June. The 25-year-old Taillon underwent surgery for testicular cancer on May 8 and was cleared to resume baseball activities less than two weeks later.
              More from the National League:
              • Mets ownership has given no indication that manager Terry Collins is in danger of losing his job, but the skipper does have critics within the front office, reports Marc Carig of Newsday. After back-to-back playoff seasons – including a World Series berth in 2015 – injury-plagued New York has gotten off to a 20-26 start this year and Collins’ bullpen management “has left some Mets officials fuming” along the way, writes Carig. However, Collins has the full support of owner Fred Wilpon, according to Carig, and could survive the season. The 68-year-old Collins became the longest-tenured manager in Mets history last week, having taken the reins back in 2011. He’s in the final year of his contract.
              • The Cubs have relegated left fielder Kyle Schwarber to a platoon role for the time being, meaning the lefty-swinger won’t face southpaws, manager Joe Maddon told reporters Friday (via Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune). “If he’s not swinging the bat well against righties, it’s a bad assumption he’s going to do well against lefties,” said Maddon, who sat Schwarber against Dodgers lefty Alex Wood on Friday. “I’m just putting him in a deeper hole by throwing him out there just based on really bad logic.” The powerful Schwarber, 24, entered the season with no shortage of hype after missing nearly all of last year with torn knee ligaments, but he has stumbled to a .183/.303/.356 line in 188 plate appearances (.147/.310/.265 in 42 tries versus lefties).
              • Brewers first baseman Eric Thames has already been tested for performance-enhancing drugs at least five times this year, but the league isn’t conspiring against the slugger, writes FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal. Rather, drug testing has gone up across the majors thanks to the new collective bargaining agreement, which likely explains Thames’ regular tests, posits Rosenthal. Thames was also tested “frequently” as a superstar with the Korea Baseball Organization from 2014-16, but there’s no account of a failed test there or with the Brewers, sources told Rosenthal.

The Pirates' John Jaso became the first player to come into a game in the ninth inning or later and have only two at-bats, the first of which tied the score and the second of which won the game, since Tampa Bay's Robinson Chirinos on Aug. 4, 2011. Chirinos had a tying single in the bottom of the 11th and a walkoff single in the 12th. (Source: Elias Sports Bureau)

                        I love Hoss!

Hosmer just thumbed his nose and said fuk you to the shift.
He inside outted a middle in pitch and hit a beautiful cue shot over third where the closest infielder was 40 feet away.

He's a professional hitter, just because you're a pull hitter doesn't mean you can't go the other way.
If you are a dead pull hitter who can not go the opposite field, the way I see it is you better be able to hit .280 or better or hit 40 bombs or you don't belong in the a big league line up.

I was a dead pull hitter back in the day, I was able to go opposite field, didn't like to, but I could.
But I'm not a big league player.

Angels' Mike Trout could land on the disabled list for the first time in his career

Initial X-rays revealed that Trout doesn't have a fracture, but an MRI on Monday will show the extent of soft tissue damage. At this point, he may miss only a day or two, or he may be placed on the disabled list for the first time in his career.

The trade that brought Zack Greinke to the Brewers from the Royals in December 2010 is still making an impact on multiple franchises over six years later, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writes. The players involved in that deal (Greinke and Yuniesky Betancourt for Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar, Jeremy Jeffress and Jake Odorizzi) have since been involved in several other blockbuster trades and transactions, such as the Royals sending Odorizzi to Tampa Bay as part of the package that sent James Shields and Wade Davis to K.C., or the Brewers parting ways with Greinke in 2012 and getting Jean Segura back from the Angels. It’s quite a remarkable list of trades linked to that original deal, with the Royals of course standing out as the big winner thanks to their 2015 World Series title.
Here’s some more from around the baseball world as we head into the new week…
                                • While some reports have suggested that the Diamondbacks would be open to trading Greinke, A.J. Pollock or Patrick Corbin even if the team is in contention, GM Mike Hazen told Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic that such a major trade wouldn’t make sense for a team in the playoff race. “If the opportunity has passed on trading one guy or two guys as opposed to the opportunity to win? To me, I’m going to take that tradeoff. That’s a tradeoff that I think we have to take,” Hazen said. None of the aforementioned three players are free agents this winter, Hazen noted, so the club doesn’t have any specific need to trade any of them immediately. Even after today’s loss to the Brewers, the D’Backs are still 31-21 on the year and they hold a 4.5 game lead on the second NL wild card slot.
                                • Felix Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma are tentatively scheduled to return to the Mariners rotation in mid-to-late June, MLB.com’s Greg Johns writes, though both pitchers are still in the very early stages of their recovery process. Hernandez (righth shoulder bursitis) and Iwakuma (right shoulder inflammation) each threw their first bullpen sessions today, and still have multiple more bullpens and then minor league rehab outings to undertake before leaving the disabled list.
                                • Teams interested in the Royals’ trade chips are being told that K.C. is still trying to contend, ESPN’s Buster Olney writes (subscription required). At 21-28, the Royals have the worst record in the American League but they sit just 4.5 games out of a wild card spot and 6.5 games behind the AL Central-leading Twins. Given the parity within the league and the Royals’ natural resistance to break up their longstanding core until they have to, it could still be some weeks before we know whether the Royals are clear buyers or sellers at the deadline.
                                • Several contenders have been boosted by players capable of playing multiple positions, and the next step could be players who can provide bench depth both on the field and on the mound, Peter Gammons writes in his latest GammonsDaily.com entry. The Dodgers are toying with the idea of using Brett Eibner as both an outfielder and reliever, and teams could consider grooming their own two-way players if Eibner succeeds in this role.

Angels in big trouble if Trout misses significant time. Dropoff from Trout to Ben Revere is massive.

Well, so much for a quiet afternoon of Memorial Day baseball. Giants reliever Hunter Strickland drills Bryce Harper in the hip -- clearly on purpose and probably because Harper hit two home runs off him in the 2014 playoffs. Harper charged, the two exchanged punches -- both nailing each other in the face -- and we're going to get some suspensions. Mostly, however, it was a gutless, bush-league pitch from Strickland. ESPN

The Angels officially placed CF Mike Trout (torn thumb ligament) on the 10-day DL and selected the contract of LF Eric Young Jr. from Triple-A Salt Lake. Los Angeles also transferred P Tyler Skaggs (strained oblique) from the 10-day DL to the 60-day DL in a corresponding roster move.

It might not be accurate to say hitting the ball hard on the ground is out of fashion in baseball, but home runs are certainly in. During a year with another spike in home run rates across the game, Derek Fisher has been one of those embracing a slight tweak to his approach at the plate. It's working.
Houston's No. 4 prospect Fisher homered and reached base five times, walking twice on a 3-for-3 night, as Triple-A Fresno routed visiting Albuquerque, 10-3, on Monday.

"In Spring Training, I started working a lot on my swing and trying to hit the ball in the air a little bit more," Fisher said after the win. "That's something that a lot of people are starting to hear more of these days. Quite honestly, I think a lot of that just attends to the fact that I've started to understand what I want to do with my swing and the routine that I have in place every day. We've been working hard from Spring Training to right now every day on the same thing with the coaching staff and coordinators that we have."
                                                      Fisher hits three-run homer

                                                      • 00:00:47 • 12:39 AM

Fisher got aboard early without having to use his swing at all, walking in the first and third innings. He scored in the latter, part of a four-run Grizzlies frame highlighted by three straight RBI singles by No. 7 Astros prospect Teoscar Hernandez, No. 23 Colin Moran and 2014 second-rounder A.J. Reed.
One inning later, Fisher beat out an infield single to second before bouncing a single to center in the sixth. In the eighth, he connected on a three-run homer to center to key another four-run inning.

                                                      Gameday box score

"I was just staying selective and swinging at good pitches," he said. "Early, I had two walks, and again, I was just going to swing in my zone. I worked two walks and started swinging outside the zone a little bit. I really just wanted to hone in on a pitch, and luckily I got a pitch and put a good swing on it (for the homer)."
The three-hit night was Fisher's fourth straight multi-hit game and seventh in his last 12. MLB.com's No. 75 overall prospect started his season well in April, but has been scorching in May. Fisher batted .292/.366/.517 with five homers and 11 RBIs in 22 games last month. In May, those numbers have jumped to .374/.427/.654 with seven homers and 22 RBIs.
"The information I was given, I was able to apply that in Spring Training with a lot of hours in the cage, honestly, just to figure out what I could be doing and how I could be doing it better and ultimately making it more consistent," he said. "Being able to grind through at-bats and grind through days when your swing doesn't feel all that well, when it comes down to it, it's just continuing to work on what I want to do with my swing."

Reed added a homer and Fresno went 5-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Eight starters had at least one hit, and the only one who didn't was Tucker, who finished with an RBI.
"I feel like every night's fun for us," Fisher said. "Our team is a lot of fun. It's a great group of guys. Obviously, the lineup that we put out there every night has a chance to do the damage that we did today. Our pitching staff has been keeping us in ballgames and throwing a lot of strikes and getting us back in the dugout. That's something that we can take away every night."
Fresno's lineup on Memorial Day included five players drafted in the first seven rounds of their respective classes -- Fisher, Moran, Reed, Tucker and Tony Kemp -- as well as ranked former international signee Hernandez.
"You can't trade it for the world," he said of the talented roster. "I mean the list of names you just put out there, it's pretty remarkable to be around them every day. Not many people can say that they can be around those type of people every day, working in the cage, on the field, just picking each other's brains during the game. That definitely can go unnoticed. The talent can speak for itself, but behind the scenes, being able to talk to the people that you get to talk to every single night, is not something that a lot of people get to experience at the level where we are."

Yeah, I still think Snakes are the team to run down, Rox rely on the sticks, they don't have a good rotation, the two Tyler's are OK away from Coors, like middle of the rotation guys on any other team, but if the Rox bats slump they don't have a stopper that can go out an pitch a 1 run 4 hit gem, D-Backs have the far more superior staff, Greinke isn't the Dodger Greinke anymore but he's a ace, not just a team ace, Rox have nobody like him or Robbie Ray who has been at times unhittable, and Walker is living up to his potential, let's face it Corbin sucks, but Godley who's been lights out since converting to a starter makes Diamondbacks the second or even the best team in that division.

Kershaw got rocked his last start, that'll happen again in maybe four months, is the best pitcher in the game since, Alex Wood is having a Cy Young season and Brandon McCarthy is having as good a season as any other #3 guy in any rotation.

Dodgers have the best pitching in the NL, the D-Backs are the second best in the NL in team pitching, Dodgers can't match the offense that Arizona has, they don't have a Goldy or Tomas, or Pollock (when he's healthy) or a Peralta, or a Owings, or even Herman, but Dodgers have the arms to win the division and they play good team baseball.
