Wondering if either of the 2 SS's I dropped get picked up off waivers tonight. Both were pretty solid but really cooled off and I'd rather have someone like Turner that has some hitters around him. The only player I've really regretted dropping is Roark, but was able to snatch Davies a week or two later who has pitched just as well.Comment -

#428Originally posted by astro61200I saw you picked up Wisler.. I was very confused why anyone would think that's a good idea. I guess I'm spoiled since I don't have to stream any pitchers and can afford to pick up someone like Skaggs and not use them until after they face the Red Sox.

#433I see mpas hopped on the SS's I dropped. Turner and, especially, Dahl have been doing well so works for me. Just need Bregman to start picking it up. Skaggs has been very good as well and couldn't let someone else get Travis so decided to pick him back up and just wait for Turner to get OF eligibility, still not sure why no one decided to grab him while he was available, but also don't understand why and how I was able to just claim Jake Lamb off waivers. Tons of talent available but can't work out a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 deal to open up space to pick them up.
Offered up Pomeranz and Harris to a few people on the outside of the playoffs that need help but guess they'd prefer to just hold on to their players and fight for 5th placeComment -

#439Originally posted by astro61200Haha not you, sending you an offer was just desperation from getting so many denials from others, granted they probably weren't the best offers long term but short term they would have kept them alive moreso than who I was asking for. But I can send you 2 closers for Aroldis, so you get one backThen you can pick up Kintzler and, BOOM, problem solved!

#440Originally posted by stealthyburritoThanks for the tip, I picked up Kintzler. I also picked up Street completing a dynamic quartet of 4 closers on awful teams and then there's chapman. In terms of a trade, I would prefer a starter and closer as I feel a need for one more starter. Pomeranz has looked like a steamy pile since moving to the AL though.
As for Pomeranz, yeah he hasn't looked great but he could give up an extra couple of hits and run per game over what he did in SD and should still do just as well since he'll actually have offense on Boston. I just don't have any other SP's I'm willing to trade, maybe Davies but that's about it.Comment -

#441Not going to lie, getting turned down offering Pomeranz and Harris for Betances really surprised me. Especially when that team is 9-7, but needs to continue winning, and they're stuck to streaming terrible pitchers.
Is there some reward for finishing 5th? I feel like I'm throwing bones to teams on the outside looking in and they'd rather just lose instead.
Oh well, I'll just laugh at them when they don't make it or when these players I offered end up more than doubling who I was asking for.Comment -

I turned down your offer of Pom for Britton. Because Pomeranz is on the decline playing in the AL now, and Britton is my best RP. I maybe willing to talk other offers, but can't give up my best RP for a SP that I think is declining.Comment -

That said, I get not wanting to move Britton. The Pomranz/Harris for Betances rejection blew my mind, especially since Harris could outperform Betances himself, and Pomeranz is a big step up from streaming AAAA players.Comment -

I actually canceled all the offers as some trades didn't happen that I expected so no need to clear space. With my pitching it gives my team a floor of ~300 each week with the potential for 400-450+ depending on my hitting. I'll let others worry about streaming #5 starters.Comment -

#449Fair enough....although I think one of my strengths is guys like Porcello, Lackey and Roark. The aren't superstars, but 4 out of 5 of their starts are usually solid.
I'm still just trying to scrap to get in. Hopefully these new closers can pay off.Comment -

McCullers and Archer are starting to pick things up, so that pretty much leaves only Davies and Pomeranz as trade bait. Arrieta, Scherzer, Verlander, and Kluber would be dumb to move and I like what Skaggs has done in AAA and now the majors so hoping I was able to get another top 15-20 SP for the stretch run.
Since I'm about 99% guaranteed to get in, I have time to ride some players out and see how they do. Someone like Bregman and his .035 average would have been dropped if I didn't have that luxury. Can also have a hitter short while I wait out Turner getting OF eligible. Don't really want to lose to chico, but it doesn't really matter much if I do.
Then I'll, hopefully, be getting Brantley and Pollock off the DL just in time for the playoffsComment -

#451i wanted to go the year with no reds or rangers but bailey plays pirates this week. He has no hit them twice so thought he would be an asset. No offense paschal but it helps my team if you finish 3rd or not make playoffs. Provided I get luck enough to be the stros. I didn't take pomeraz because I benched him in 2 other leagues. He would only be a spot starter now that he is in boston. He has the ability to be lit up in that band boxComment -

#452Chico....first step of your wish just came true. Story is out for the year.
Real kick in the nuts because I have him in 3 money leagues that are all 16 team leagues. Was looking like a genius taking him at the end of the draft. Now I'm in a world of hurt. Also sucks that I have Teheran on two of those teams.Comment -

#453Well, since I started offering up Harris, he blew 2 saves and lost his job. Hmmm.
It works out tho as I prefer my closers to be strikeout guys, so picked up Giles last night and he was named closer earlier today. Then was able to drop Harris for Cam Bedrosian, who is the player I wanted to clear a roster spot for when I was offering up Pomeranz/Harris. Figured Street would get traded so Bedrosian would take over that way, but Street hitting the DL works all the same.
So it all works out in the end! Glad I was able to hold on to Pomeranz as I don't view him as a spot starter and believe he'll put up more points for the Red Sox because he'll actually have some run support. Plus Fenway, per park factors, was actually more of a pitchers' park last year than PETCO and Pomeranz has posted better numbers on the road this year anyway.Comment -

#455Pomeranz, who only threw 79 pitches, allowed five earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 5 1/3 innings in the Red Sox’s 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. He’s now 0-2 with a 7.54 ERA in 14 1/3 innings since being traded to the Red Sox.
