Brian Hoyer was the best player for Kansas City yesterday. How does Houston even let him on the team next season?

          Sunday Update:

MIA - Adam Gase hired by Miami

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase has been hired as the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Gase will receive a five-year contract from the Dolphins, according to a source.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gase will also have final say in personnel decisions. This is a great move for the Dolphins. Gase helped QB Jay Cutler in 2015, and he got the best season out of Peyton Manning in 2013. Ryan Tannehill should have the best season of his career with Gase running the show.

KC - WR Jeremy Maclin has ACL injury

          Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (knee) suffered an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament Saturday, Jan. 9, but it is not definitive that it is a tear, according to a source.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An MRI will reveal more about the extent of this injury, but this is a huge blow to the Chiefs offense. Maclin is the premiere piece of their passing game, and without him the team will turn to guys like Albert Wilson or Chris Conley to do more.

PHI - Tom Coughlin will talk with Eagles

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is scheduled to interview for the Philadelphia Eagles head coaching position Monday, Jan. 11, according to a source.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The pendulum is swinging back here for the Eagles. They fired Chip Kelly, a known innovator and risk-taker...and now, they'd possibly be considering an old-school coach like Coughlin. It's a bit surprising that Coughlin doesn't want to step away for a year, but he's resigned from the Giants not retired.

HOU - QB Brian Hoyer commits five turnovers

          Source: The Associated Press

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer completed 15 of 34 passes for 136 yards and four interceptions and lost a fumble in a 30-0 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round of the playoffs Saturday, Jan. 9.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're surprised Texans head coach Bill O'Brien didn't pull Hoyer after just a few turnovers. Hoyer looked uncomfortable all game long, and perhaps Brandon Weeden could have provided a bit of a spark (or at least not turned the ball over as much).

HOU - DE J.J. Watt played through pain

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (groin) said the groin injury he suffered in the AFC wild-card game against the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, Jan. 9, was 'extremely painful.'

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watt was clearly not himself as the Texans defense struggled. They'll get to regroup now that the Chiefs knocked them out of the playoffs.

IND - QB Andrew Luck could ink extension

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Gregg Doyel

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck could sign a contract extension this offseason as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. 'If we don't get an agreement,' owner Jim Irsay said, 'we still have time. And he is going to be signed. There's a reasonably good chance we can come to that agreement this offseason. He will be here, trust me. Andrew and I have talked - we talked after the end of the season - and he couldn't be more excited.'

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no need for any delay. If the two sides can come close to an agreement, then they need to make it happen.

GB - CB Sam Shields will not play

          Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Green Bay Packers CB Sam Shields (concussion) has been ruled out for the wild-card game against the Washington Redskins Sunday, Jan. 10.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bad news for the Packers here. Washington's passing game and guys like DeSean Jackson should have a better time on Sunday since Shields isn't going to play. Quinten Rollins is going to get more playing time with Shields out.

CHI - Dowell Loggains may be Bears OC

          Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Chicago Bears quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains is the leading candidate for the team's offensive coordinator position, according to sources.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's good news for Jay Cutler. Loggains and Cutler were able to work well together in 2015, and with Adam Gase getting hired as the Dolphins head coach any sort of stability for Cutler going forward is a good thing.

MIA - Vance Joseph expected to be coordinator

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Cincinnati Bengals defensive backs coach Vance Joseph is expected to be the Miami Dolphins next defensive coordinator.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A great move for the Dolphins. Joseph has been a hot coaching candidate for some time now, and he finally gets a chance to prove himself in a larger role.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger returns

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

Updating a previous story, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) returned to the AFC wild-card game against the Cincinnati Bengals Saturday, Jan. 9.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Roethlisberger returned to action, but he clearly wasn't himself. We'll know more about his injury as the Steelers will travel once again in the playoffs. This week, they'll be playing the ferocious defense of the Denver Broncos in the Mile High City.

NFL - Hue Jackson keeping options open

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson is interviewing for the head coaching positions with the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers Sunday, Jan. 10, and Jackson is equally interested in both jobs, according to a source.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Now that the Bengals season is over, interest in Jackson should ramp up. He's a creative coach who is innovative in the formations and play designs his teams use.

KC - TE Travis Kelce torches Houston again

          Source: The Associated Press

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce had eight catches for 128 yards in a 30-0 win over the Houston Texans in the wild-card round of the playoffs Saturday, Jan. 9.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see Kelce get an even larger role for the Chiefs as Jeremy Maclin (knee) is banged up and may miss the game against the New England Patriots next week.

KC - RB Spencer Ware leads KC backfield

          Source: The Associated Press

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware carried the ball 16 times for 67 yards and a touchdown in a 30-0 win over the Houston Texans in the wild-card round of the playoffs Saturday, Jan. 9.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ware could have easily gone over 100 yards on the ground against a Texans defense that was spiraling down on Saturday. As the Chiefs advance to play the Patriots, Ware should continue to be a big part of what they do offensively.

Denver seems to be getting all the breaks. They will certainly need them. I think Manning will bring them down.

So he is going to play but not 100%. Antonio Brown will be up to the doctors?

The initial belief is that Rothlisberger is dealing with a sprained AC joint, not as severe as a separation but painful nonetheless.
