#40No insult, but this comment is dumb.
Cleveland is the 2nd best team in the AL (16-12) over the last 30 days behind Texas (17-10). Seems like there are lots of teams who can't beat them...and Tigers are only 12-15 since then.Comment -

#41Won't touch it but a few tidbits
• This will be the first start of the season for Justin Verlander, but it will be against a very familiar foe. Verlander has more starts against the Indians (40) in his career than he does any other team.
• Verlander has a 4.42 ERA and a 1.282 WHIP in 254 1/3 innings pitched against the Indians. That ERA is the highest for Verlander against any team in the majors that he has faced more than two times.
• Despite Cleveland's history of success against Verlander, the team's current players haven't had that much against him. Current members of the Indians are hitting .247 (87 for 352) with a .717 OPS against Verlander. Jason Kipnis is 3 for 34 (.088) with 13 strikeouts in his career against Verlander.
• Yan Gomes is 6 for 16 (.375) with two doubles in his career against Verlander. Michael Bourn is 12 for 33 (.364) with two home runs, four RBIs, four walks and 10 strikeouts.
• The Tigers have excellent numbers against right-hander Carlos Carrasco. He is 2-6 with a 7.20 ERA and a 2.111 WHIP in 13 appearances, including eight starts, against the Tigers. His line in one start against the Tigers this season: 4.1IP, 9H, 5R, 5ER, 2BB, 5SO.
• Miguel Cabrera is 8 for 21 (.381) with a double, a home run and a 1.030 OPS against Carrasco. Ian Kinsler is 7 for 19 (.368) with three doubles. Current members of the Tigers are hitting .337 (28 for 83) with a .908 OPS against Carrasco.
• The forecast in Detroit calls for highs in the lower 70s. There appears to be some rain in the forecast, but that's mainly very early and very late in the day. First pitch is set for 4:08 p.m.Comment -

#42Interestingly that this text doesn't mention Moss (1.417 OPS v Verlander, albeit only 11 AB) or Brantley (18 for 54 of Verlander). Santana bats only .205 of Verlander, but he has a .876 OPS against him and he isn't mentioned, too.Comment -

#50Verlander wasn't bad at all. Allowed two runs and only three hits on five innings with two walks. He only had two strikeouts though.Comment -

#54He gave up more home runs than he had strikeouts. At least he'll be the answer to trivia question about A-Roid 3,000th hit being a homer.Comment -

#55It's not unusual for pitchers to regress in their second starts following long layoffs coming back for any type of arm injury, due to some natural muscle soreness. We should get a better gauge for where Verlander stands going forward.Comment -

for as much as you know about/keep up with player availability, stats, etc., you may be a little short on knowledge of how much poontang ALL of these guys close on the road....... former bro in law pitched for lsu world series team yrs ago, and several of his teammates made the majors.... generally speaking, whether married or with a girlfriend, whatever, these guys, like sailors back in the day, have women in every city they go to at their disposal......Comment -
