Mother Nature hammered us pretty good here in North Alabama. Some 300 plus people lost their lives and property damage was unbelievable. I was very lucky and no one in my family or friends were hurt. Some did lose their homes and businesses. I have just gotten my electricity back after several days in the dark. Just been trying to help out where I'm needed. I pray HoldEmHook, CantcallIt and other posters in this area are safe.

#387Good to see you back Workhorse. My family and I were worried about you and the Mules. I am glad to see that they all made it, but sorry to hear that some of your friends lost everything. #394OKLAHOMA STATE VS ARIZONA
The Cowboys-Wildcats game originally scheduled for Saturday, September 10, has been moved to Thursday, September 8. The game was moved to accommodate ESPN's desire to televise the game nationally. Should be a good game to watch before the Saturday games.
CALIFORNIA
Cal quarterback Beau Sweeney has decided to transfer to another school. In 2009 and the first half of the 2010 season. Sweeney had been the No. 2 quarterback behind starter Kevin Riley. However, Sweeney struggled throughout the spring this year and had fallen behind Zack Maynard, Brock Mansion and Allen Bridgford in the battle to replace Riley as Cal's starter.
OHIO STATE
Former 5-star recruit Dorian Bell has been suspended for the entire 2011 season for violating an unspecified team rule. This was his third violation of the same rule. Bell played in eight games last season missing three due to a concussion. Bell was rated the No. 3 linebacker in the country coming out of high school.
Michigan fans have put up a large billboard on I-94 West between Ann Arbor and Detroit. It reads:
LIAR, LIAR, VEST ON FIRE!
OREGON
After missing the entire 2010 season due to a suspension following a DUI arrest, middle linebacker Kiko Alonso finds himself in the doghouse again. Alonso was arrested Sunday on charges of burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischier. Alonso was expected to start this season but now looks to be history with the Ducks.
WEST VIRGINIA
West Virginia got a scare during the spring game when starting left guard Josh Jenkins suffered a sprained MCL. The initial prognosis is that the senior will be in a brace and rehabbing for a period of 6-8 weeks. At that point, it will be determined if the knee is stable enough or if surgery is needed. Jenkins has started 23 of 28 games as a Mountaineer.
WASHINGTON
Keith Price seems to have won the starting quarterback job over Nick Montana after a spring long battle. Price went 20 of 28 for 212 yards and 3 touchdowns while Montana went 9 of 20 for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns during the spring game. Whether it's Price or Montana opening week, someone will have to fill the large void left by Jake Locker, who was drafted No. 8 by the Tennessee Titans.

We are lucky to have received no damage at shop or at home. Its only a short drive down county road 34 to see extensive damage, its really bad. Roofs in lake, cars in trees, over 300 boats missing from lake martin. I hope everyone makes it through this tough time. On the bright side a small spark will develop from this to gradually boost the local economy through development and more construction, i.e. people spending money. #397PAC 12
The Sports Business Journal is reporting that the Pac 12 has agreed to a huge media rights deal with ESPN and Fox that is worth $2.7 billion over twelve years. That averages out to $225 million annually, more than triple what the conference's current deal is worth. The Pac 12's new deal trumps that of the Big 10 (estimated at $212 million and SEC ($205 million), and involves not only football, but basketball and Olympic sports as well. Each Pac 12 school would average $18.75 million annually under the new deal. Each SEC school averaged $18.3 million in 2009-2010. Sounds like a great improvement for the Pac 12 Conference.
NORTH CAROLINA STATE
Quarterback Russell Wilson has been given his release from the North Carolina State football team. Wilson was last year's ACC Offensive Player of the Year runner-up. Wilson was told that he would not be the starter next season and ask for his release. He can transfer to another school and play this season because he has already received his degree from NCSU. Several schools have shown interest in Wilson including Auburn, Ole Miss, South Carolina and LSU from the SEC.
BOISE STATE
The university has issued its official response Monday regarding NCAA violations committed by five of its sports, including secondary ones involving the football program. On the football side, all of the 63 instances noted by the NCAA involved potential recruits receiving impermissible benefits. The majority of the allegations involve impermissible housing, transportation or meals. As a result of the inquiry, Boise State has already implemented changes to avoid future violations.
SOUTHERN CAL VS COLORADO
On Monday, the Pac 12 Conference announced that the USC-Colorado game has been move from Saturday, November 5, to Friday, November 4, at 9 pm ET. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Espn wanted the game for its Thursday night schedule but Colorando requested the Friday date.Comment -

#399Adding on to the Pac 12 deal. The figures are actually higher, and may exceed 3 billion over 12 years. This does not include digital and network rights, should the Pac 10 form their own network, which is just about a guarantee. The Pac 12 is also going to market their product on a test basis to Pacific Rim Countries. Pac 12 Commissioner Larry Scott has pulled off a major coop.
Now let's carry this a step further. What happens if the 8 other teams in the Big 12-2 decide that they are sick and tired of being screwed over by Texas and Oklahoma? Would they leave? There are certainly enough conferences that would grab these teams. The MWC, SEC, and yes, even the Pac 12 would certainly be interested. Did the Pac 12's T.V. deal doom the Big 12-2?Comment -

#406MIAMI 'THUGS'
The Miami (Thugs) Hurricanes may be traveling to Maryland opening week minus ten players who have been suspended for the first game of the season. InsideTheU reported yesterday that four players have been suspended for at least the regular season opener because of two separate incidents late last month. One incident on April 27 involved running back Storm Jackson, linebacker Travis Williams and cornerback Keion Payne, while the other occurred April 29 and involved offensive lineman Jermaine Barton. No details were given.
In March, it was reported that six players would be suspended for the 2011 opener, including offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson, linebacker Kevin Cain, defensive lineman Dyron Dye and defensive back Devonta Davis.
Defensive tackle Jeffrey Brown surrendered to police yesterday and was charged with sexual battery. It is alleged by police that Brown raped an unnamed female on campus April 30 while she was drunk and sleeping.
Welcome to the Miami football program Al Golden. By the way, this is a (team?) that has to play Florida State, Ohio State and Virginia Tech this season. Yeah, welcome coach Golden!Comment -

#407RULE CHANGES FOR 2011
The NCAA has approved a series of rules changes for the upcoming football season, including one that will allow for a 10-second clock runoff for penalties in the final minute of each half. If a team commits a penalty that stops the clock in the final minute of each half, the opponent will now have three choices. The team can take a 10-second clock runoff and a yardage penalty, or just the yardage penalty without the clock runoff, or decline both. Previously, there was no clock runoff, which the NFL has employed for a number of years.
Also, the NCAA approved a rules change concerning blocking below the waist. Wide receivers and backs in motion more than seven yards from the center at the snap of the ball can block below the waist only against a player facing him or toward the nearest sideline. If a player blocks below the waist on another player toward the center of the play, it will be a penalty. Players on the line of scrimmage within seven yards of the center are still allowed to block below the waist anywhere on the field. Previously, officials had to determine where a player started at the snap or, in the case of wide receivers, how far down the field the receiver was to determine whether the block below the waist was legal.
Players on place kicks will no longer be able to line up shoulder to shoulder in groups of three or more and move toward one lineman. Coaches on the NCAA Football Rules Committee cited examples of where one offensive lineman is overpowered by three defensive players in an attempt to penetrate the line of scrimmage to block a kick.
The new taunting rule, approved last April, will also go into effect this season. If a player is flagged for taunting before reaching the end zone, the score will be nullified and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty will be enforced from the spot of the foul.
As sure as there are bears in Alaska, the new taunting rule will cost a team a win early in the season and no one is the blame but the coaching staff and some indisciplined, showboating player. Just watch, it will happen.Comment -

#411FLORIDA
Gator head coach Will Muschamp has finalized his contract. Muschamp received a $750,000 signing bonus, making his first year of the five-year deal worth more than $3.25 million. His average salary will be about $2.75 million annually. The five-year deal includes $250,000 in base salary, $1.7 million annually for television and radio contracts, $260,000 annually from the school's equipment contracts, $200,000 annually from the school's apparel contract with Nike, $61,000 annually for an expense account and $29,400 annually in pension. Now, Muschamp has to earn all that money.
TENNESSEE TECH
Police in Cookeville, Tennessee, say a suspected truck thief's end run failed when two Tennessee Tech football players helped officers apprehend him. Players Marcus Edwards and DeShawn Harris were presented commendations in the team locker room on Wednesday. Coach Watson Brown (Texas Mack Brown's brother) says his players give and give back and it's a great lesson at a young age. Imagine that, football players helping police catch lawbreakers rather than being arrested themselves. Nice to hear for a change.
SYRACUSE
Former Syracuse great Floyd Little has been a frequent visitor over the years to the Carrier Dome on fall afternoons to watch his alma mater play. The commute just got a lot shorter. Little, a three time All-American, is returning to serve as special assistant to athletics director Daryl Gross, the school announced yesterday. Little will be responsible for development and donor relations, he will assist with student-athletes and team development and recruiting, and also handle special projects. I remember Floyd Little and he was a great college football player....not bad with the Denver Broncos either.
BOISE STATE
An NCAA probe that led to 22 rule violations by coaches at Boise State University appears to have been triggered by an email sent more than three years ago by a university employee. The Idaho Statesman reports the NCAA launched its inquiry after getting an email from a frustrated Amy Christoffersen, a former staffer in the athletic department compliance office. Christofferson, says she loves Bronco sports. But she is confident she did the right thing in alerting NCAA officials of potential problems for some Bronco teams.
SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE
The SEC Conference is pledging $500,000 to the University of Alabama to help storm victims. The SEC announced the donation yesterday to support Alabama's efforts in assisting students, faculty and staff that were affected by the April 27 tornadoes. The contribution will supplement other individual institutional contributions and fundraising efforts. University of Florida President Bernie Machen says league rivals "compete fiercely in athletics we also support each other fiercely in times of need." Amen President Machen!Comment -

#412BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES VS JUSTICE DEPARTMENT
With Utah attorney general Mark Shurtleff threatening to file a lawsuit, the Justice Department wants to know if the BCS complies with anti-trust laws. If this is a sincere effort at change, we have only one question: Why now?
The BCS has existed since 1998. Why has nobody asked the Justice Department to question the BCS before this? Also, consider that the BCS essentially is little more than an agreement between conferences and bowls to slot certain teams into certain games. The Rose Bowl began doing that in 1946 when it entered into an agreement with the Big Ten Conference and the league that eventually developed int th Pac-10 Conference. Was it not an anti-trust violation that the Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference champions couldn't go to the Rose Bowl then, but it is if Boise State or Utah isn't playing in the BCS National Championship Game?
It's hard to figure if the Justice Department is committed completely to investigation the BCS. It seems more like Justice Dept. officials are telling Shurtleff and complaining Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah, "OK,OK, shut up already! We'll send a letter to the NCAA asking why there's no playoff. Will that get you to shut your yaps for two seconds?"
(Thisisit has a good thread on this subject. "Beginning of the end of the BCS.")Comment -

#415TENNESSEE
Alex Bullard has received a hardship waiver from the NCAA that will allow him to play as an offensive lineman at Tennessee during the 2011 season. Bullard, a Franklin, Tennessee native, transferred from Notre Dame to Tennessee at the start of the 2011 spring semester following the death of his father. Tennessee and Bullard were notified of the waiver Thursday. The 6-foot-2, 310 pound sophomore was given the Vols' Harvery Robinson award for top performance by an offensive player during the spring drills. Somewhere out there our friend UTMoody is smiling. Good news for Tennessee.
OREGON
Oregon linebacker Kiko Alonso has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of trespassing and criminal mischief stemming from his arrest last Sunday. Alonso was sentenced Friday morning in Lane County Circuit Court to two years of probation, 200 hours of community service and alcohol treatment.
MIAMI
Former Memphis quarterback Ryan Williams has transferred to the Hurricanes. Williams played in all 12 games for Memphis last season, completing 57 percent of his passes for 2,075 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions as a freshman. He's a South Florida native and led Miramar High School to a state championship in 2009.
KANSAS STATE
Kansas State has agreed to settle a contract dispute with former football coach Ron Prince for $1.65 million. Prince was gererally unpopular with fans after going 17-20 from 2006-2008 as head coach. He was fired. Afterward, the school said it accidentally discovered what it called a secret memorandum of understanding signed by Prince and athletics director Robert Krause. In that agreement, Prince was supposedly owed $3.2 million in addition to a severance payment of about $1.3 million.Comment -
