#107BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Boulder prosecutors filed theft and trespassing charges against a UNLV assistant football coach after authorities accused him of taking the wallet and gun of a strip club's bouncer.
Prosecutors filed the charges Thursday against Tyler Gregorak, who is UNLV's linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator. UNLV's athletic director asked Gregorak this week to resign.
The bouncer told police his items were taken from his car May 1, hours after he refused to allow Gregorak to enter a Boulder strip club because he appeared too intoxicated. The bouncer told police Gregorak later went to his home to apologize and return his items.
Gregorak played linebacker for the University of Colorado in 1997-99 and was linebackers coach for the University of Montana before joining UNLV.Comment -

#109New Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly believes the weekend arrest of a backup tight end on a drug charge is "a serious matter" and the player may be disciplined, a spokesman said Tuesday. So another bits the dust.
State police said Mike Ragone, who has two years of eligibility remaining, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession Saturday morning about 45 miles east of South Bend because he was allegedly going 83 mph in a 70 mph zone on the Indiana Toll Road.
The trooper making the stop smelled marijuana, searched the car and found two baggies of a leafy substance in the purse of Ragone's girlfriend. A field test indicated it was marijuana. They say he admitted that it was his marijuana.Comment -

#110BOISE, Idaho Suspended Boise State player Jason Robinson was sentenced to 180 days in jail and ordered to pay $29,000 in restitution for breaking another man’s jaw during a fight at a downtown bar.
Robinson pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery Tuesday in a deal with prosecutors. The judge suspended 160 days of a sentence that allows him to serve on a county labor crew instead of jail. Robinson must also serve two years’ probation and complete 200 hours of community service.
Robinson apologized for his behavior and said he has learned a lesson. He was initally charged with a felony. But a felony conviction would have ended his eligibility for his athletic scholarship.
The 21-year-old safety was suspended in March. Last season, he collected 26 tackles playing mostly on special teams.Comment -

If I was a coach, I would much rather have my players smoking a little dope than getting hammered on alcohol.
I will say this about that stretch of road - it is flat, lonely and straight. It is hard to keep it at 70. I got a ticket there once and the cp said, "I got you once at 91 and once at 94. It did not look like you were going to slow down, so I have to write you a ticket."Comment -

#115LINCOLN, Neb. (AP)—Nebraska’s top receiver is suspected of committing his second alcohol-related offense in 14 months.
Lincoln police ticketed Niles Paul on suspicion of alcohol possession by a minor and urinating in public.
Police spokeswoman Katie Flood said an officer spotted the 20-year-old Paul urinating on a fence at 1:23 a.m. Friday. A preliminary breath test measured Paul’s blood-alcohol at .104.
Nebraska coach Bo Pelini said Tuesday in a statement he met with Paul and that the matter “has been addressed and handled internally.”
Paul was suspended for the balance of spring practice in April 2009 after his arrest on suspicion of drunken driving. Paul was not charged with DUI. He pleaded guilty to reckless driving and being a minor in possession of alcohol.Comment -

#119The latest on the Iowa Hogflies.
"I am aware of the incident involving Jordan Bernstine and Jewel Hampton Friday evening and at this time I am in the process of gathering all the facts concerning the incident," Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said in a statement. "Until I have all the facts, I'll have no further comment and the incident will be handled internally."
Staff and patrons told police that Hampton, 20, had been causing problems. Hampton had a preliminary breath test reading at 2:35 a.m. that showed a blood-alcohol level of .091.
"Based on their investigation, officers determined that Mr. Hampton was actively involved in several physical confrontations within the bar," Campbell told ESPN.com.
In Iowa City, people under 21 aren't allowed to be at a bar after 10 p.m.
Bernstine, a cornerback, was arrested with Hampton and charged with public intoxication. Bernstine is over 21, so he won't face the underage charge.
Bernstine had a preliminary breath test reading that showed a blood-alchohol level of .127.
Hampton missed all of the 2009 season with a knee injury but participated in spring practice. He entered last summer as Iowa's projected starter after rushing for 463 yards and seven touchdowns as a true freshman in 2008, but he hurt his knee during voluntary workouts in July and reinjured it in preseason camp.Comment -

#121EUGENE, Ore. -- Suspended Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masolii was kicked off the team Wednesday, two days after a police officer cited him for marijuana possession and driving infractions.
Twow months ago, Jeremiah Masoli was a Heisman Trophy candidate and the quarterback of a national title contender. But he blew it. Times two, writes ESPN.com's Ted Miller.
In a statement, the university said Masoli was dropped because he did not "adhere to obligations" outlined by coach Chip Kelly. The coach, through a spokesman, declined to comment.
A Springfield police officer cited Masoli late Monday on charges of possessing less than one ounce of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and failure to stop when entering a roadway, said Sgt. Tom Borchers of the Springfield Police Department.
Masoli can either pay a fine or contest the accusations at a June 24 court appearance, Borchers said.
Kelly suspended Masoli in March for the entire 2010 season after the QB pleaded guilty to burglary for his role in the theft of laptops and a guitar from a fraternity. Masoli remained on scholarship and practiced with the team this spring in hopes of returning for the 2011 season.
Masoli has one season of eligibility remaining.
Masoli threw for 2,147 yards and 15 touchdowns last season. He also rushed for 668 yards and 13 touchdowns in a season that ended with a Rose Bowl loss to Ohio State.
The San Francisco native finished his Oregon career with 1,386 rushing yards, the most ever by a Ducks quarterback.

Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon confirmed that the university admissions office concluded that Dorsey won't be admitted.
Dorsey, the Big Ten's highest-rated recruit according to ESPN Recruiting, signed and returned papers Wednesday to Michigan that release him from the letter of intent he signed in February. Dorsey's high school coach, Mark James, told ESPN.com on Monday that Dorsey met NCAA qualifications to play football but didn't earn admittance to Michigan.
"I guess he didn't qualify to their standards," said Dorsey's father, Eddie Jackson, according to the report. "Admissions sent him a letter that they weren't going to admit him to the school and said to disregard the other letter [of intent] and [he] was free again to start looking at other options."
Dorsey's decision to sign with Michigan generated controversy because he twice was charged with felonies as a juvenile. He was acquitted of a charge of robbery with a deadly weapon in 2008, and an earlier burglary charge was dismissed.
James told ESPN.com that Dorsey's issues with his admission to Michigan may have stemmed from his previous legal transgressions.
Jackson said Michigan's coaching staff worked hard to try to get Dorsey into school, The Detroit News reported.
"The coaches did everything they possibly can," he said, according to the report. "Everything, I heard, came from admissions. My understanding was everything was good with his grades. He was doing his work in school, which he had slacked up on in the beginning. He started doing exactly what he needed to do."
The highly touted defensive back was one of the top players coach Rich Rodriguez signed in February. Michigan's secondary has struggled the past two years.
The 6-foot, 175-pound Dorsey was a star at Lauderdale Lakes High school.
Dorsey is a cousin of Wolverines quarterback Denard Robinson. Michigan lured him away from his verbal commitment to the University of Florida. Southern California and Florida State also recruited him.Comment -

Police officials told the paper that Harrison, 23, was arrested at approximately 6:30 p.m. and taken into custody on misdemeanor shoplifting charges.

WICHITA, Kan. -- Two former University of Kansas athletics officials tied to a $1 million ticket scalping scandal at the school have been charged as part of a federal probe into the scheme, according to court documents made public Wednesday.
Brandon Simmons, the university's former assistant athletic director for sales and marketing, was charged with one count of misprision of a felony. Prosecutors allege he knew tickets were stolen from the university, concealed that fact and did not report it to authorities, according to a criminal information document filed in federal court in Topeka.
Jason Jeffries, the assistant director of ticket operations, was charged last week with the same felony, which carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison.
Jeffries' charges also were cited in a criminal information document, which is typically filed with the consent of the defendant and is commonly the first step toward entering a guilty plea. Both men are scheduled to appear in court next week.
Simmons, Jeffries and four other former university employees have been accused in an internal investigation of an alleged scheme to sell at least $1 million in basketball and football tickets to brokers. The university determined that thousands of tickets were used or sold by several school staffers for personal purposes.Comment -

#140Here is an update on the Tennessee idiots.
Knoxville Police Department Officer Robert Capouellez, 24, remained in serious condition Saturday at University of Tennessee Medical Center after a Friday morning bar fight involving several University of Tennessee football players.
Due to an "honest mistake," a nursing administrator had incorrectly told some media that Capouellez had been released from the hospital late Friday night, a hospital spokesperson said Saturday.
According to Knoxville police, Capouellez had attempted to break up a brawl at Bar Knoxville, 1820 Cumberland Ave. Capouellez, who was off-duty and not in uniform at the time of the incident, sustained a head injury.
Witnesses said Capouellez was hit in the head and knocked to the ground, where a suspect "kicked the officer several times before fleeing the scene," a police spokesman said.Comment
