Comps are purely a marketing ploy. Because they are in whole or partially motivated by pecuniary gain they are not generous to the player.

Well no shit, think about it. People don't start and operate businesses to give shit away, and take losses.

These guys have fun trip reports about very cheap trips to vegas that involve maximizing those comps. Interesting to see a trip report from fellow low rollers and you might learn something about the system on the way.

Yeah that website is great too. I never knew that there were so many casinos in Las Vegas. The ones on the strip were the most well known to me but I wouldn't mind visiting the ones on fremont or the ones out of the way. It would probably be more enjoyable gambling it up at at $1/2 craps than getting treated like crap at the Bellagio.

I'm heading to AC next weekend!
I got free rooms, free meals (2 free buffet coupons at 2 different casinos), $40 worth of match plays, $55 cash. All this and I'm just an average player!
When you go to AC or Vegas, play at many casinos so you can get different offers. That way when you return, you can stay for a week and not pay for a thing! I usually get 2 free nights at different places, so I just move every couple of days when I go for a week long adventure.

Pretty good idea...so it's not worth sticking at one casino and racking up more at one place (for the recreational player who visits every so often)? Fishhead your thoughts?

It really depends on the casino.......some, like Harrahs for example, reward you better as you reach certain levels.

The main thing you want to concentrate is playing where the expected return is best without the card......either at a game that is close enough to breakeven where the comps will offset your losses or at least very close to it, OR BETTER YET, PLAYING A GAME THAT IS BEATABLE NOT EVEN TAKING THE CARD INTO CONSIDERATION.

Again, I can explain more of the details of getting the most out of your comp dollars at the coming bash.

                                      Thanks,
                                      FH

                                                Agree,

I always get comped even if I am up $1000 I will take advantage of the comps.

When I win, I always tip so generally the dealers/floor person just offers me the comp without my even asking.

Not true. Station Casinos, for example, will give you the equivalent of $1 in comps for every $500 you put in action. This, admittedly, isn't great, but the real value is that after you make a few bets you'll start getting additional direct mail offers for stuff like free slot play and free meals.

Harrah's owned books are run in a similar manner. You get a measly amount of points on your card from betting, but sportsbettors get lots of additional offers. For example, I'm a "diamond member" at Harrah's strictly from playing poker. Another guy I know is also a diamond member from poker, but he occasionally will put down a bet from between $100 to $1K in their sportsbook. Despite being the same player status and having basically the same number of points, I don't get any additional comps and they comp the shit out of him. Free rooms any weekday, freeroll poker and table game tournaments, random cash, diamond status for 3 years even if he stops gambling there. All that for like $4K in action.

All that stated, online sportsbetting is vastly superior because of reduced juice. Vegas is slow to move their lines though and some sportsbook managers are very dumb. If you're in the right place at the right time you can get some gigantic scalps down and backdoor your way into some good comps.
