I happened to be large on the Tigers last night - not as a fade against Rubby but as a play on the Tigers' bats waking up on a beautiful night in Detroit, beginning of a new series against a team they get up for, etc.
I was walking my dog (pictured) and listening to the Tigers radio broadcast for much of the game. Got a lot of great insight into De La Rosa that the TV guys would never give you. He's basically got an incredible fastball with unique late movement - tops out at 98 or so. Then he's got this killer changeup that looks exactly like his fastball motion (duh - but he's a kid and his delivery is keyholed like a vet) that ranges from 88-93.
So two incredible pitches, but that's basically it. He's working on his slider and only throws it on waste pitches or when there's like 2 out and nobody on. So for all intents, he's got two pitches - both more or less straight - and he will get fukking crushed by any team with a decent lineup… especially on their 2nd and 3rd times through the order (if he even lasts that long). They were talking about a view they had of Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera standing in the dugout during the 2nd inning or something and watching Rubby pitch and discussing what they learned from their first time up.
Just something I thought I'd throw out there - maybe I'm reading too much into it but I thought it was a fun thought.
