Why doesn't MLB use a Computerized Strike Zone?

During a baseball game i heard a commentator complain about the home plate umpires strike zone, calling it "inconsistent at best", the broadcast guy came up with an amazing idea. He suggested a computerized strike zone, if the pitch is a strike the umpire will hear a ping and the fans can see a green light on the scoreboard...if the pitch is a ball the umpire hears a different sound and the fans see a red light. Whats stopping MLB from doing this? Having a computerized strike zone lifts all the suspicion of fixed games, umpire strike zone bias and also manager/player complaints regarding balls and strikes. Seems like the perfect way to have a more accurately called baseball game.

great idea, i've been thinking about that too why haven't they figured that out already... i think there are reasons why they don't do this... probably one of those is the delays it will generate and maybe also some tradition they want to keep intact

Because they want the biases and inconsistancies of the umpire strike zones
