I'll believe it when I see it. Obama's rope-a-doping the base again. He pretends to put up the good fight and then sells them out. You don't put a telecom lobbyist in charge of the agency over the internet for no reason. The only way net-neutrality happens is if Wheeler is terrified of the public reaction and fears for his life. We'll pay more and have speeds slower than the third-world because that's what America is all about. Exceptionalism. Exceptionally stupid.

Probably so. These companies are subsidized out the wazoo. They want to keep that money flowing and fee the crap out of everybody. That's the new American way and everything that the Ted Cruz's believe in. If they are going to take the money, they've got to be regulated. If they want to pay for it all themselves, they can charge what they want and do what they want. They better give me some internet speed faster than Slovenia if they are going to charge me for it.

Verizon has also already beaten the FCC in court too.

            Buffalo nickel knows what's up.

net neut is just part of a larger discussion.

why does the average german, South Korean, etc. pay $30 for internet that's 9 times faster than the fastest we have?

obv because they hate monopolies and believe in competition. If I want to start an internet provider in Germany, their version of Comcast must open up their pipes to me, at a 'reasonable' profit.

            this clearly drives down prices.

The only positive about this thing is that Wheeler is scared stiff. He knows he going to unleash holy hell if he sells out and he's going to do a John Roberts. But it's going to be just around the margins to try to fool people that they haven't been sold out.

Not sure on this, but i heard that Obama was going to get rid of NN in the frist place. As a form of payment to cable companies for data collection on US citizens for the NSA. Like i said not sure if this is true.

Germany doesn't pay 30 dollars for service that's 9 times faster than the fastest we have here.

I just blew out 1000 brain cells over the past hour digging deep into this.

                    1) I sort of lean to the side of Obama here. His point is wireless should play by the same rules as hard wired. And I can't find an argument with that.
                    2) There is not going to be a compromise, both sides will not budge.
                    3) This 'fight' will continue for at least two more years.
                    4) It'll probably come down to Wheeler, who is Obama's buddy, but he's leaning towards Big Cable right now.
But.... Wheeler wants a hybrid seperate broadband, one for retail, and a backend one, for websites distributing content.
I don't have the time or energy to go into details.
                    5) There has to be some set hard and fast rules.
                    6) Right now it's a clusterfuck.

By the end of this year, South Koreans will have access to Internet speeds that aremore than 200 times faster than what most Americans have, and they can have it for just $27 a month, or slightly more than half the average price Americans pay.

Internet providers say comparisons between the United States and other countries are flawed. But consumer groups argue that other countries offer better deals -- and have greater levels of Internet adoption -- because there is more competition in the market. Experts say the FCC should create policies which would ensure more companies compete to provide Internet service and keep prices low.

                      huffpo article from 2012.

concludes, as i did earlier, that the main issue here is in places like germany, if i want to start an internet provider, cox, comcast, etc. must give me access to their pipes.

in this country, a single company usually has a monopoly on the market and predictably, customers suffer.
