Australia vs. Egypt Prediction: World Cup Picks & Best Bets (July 3)

I'm backing a regulation-time draw in my Australia vs. Egypt prediction, expecting to see a match with nothing to choose between the combatants.

Egypt and Australia will square off at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Friday (2 p.m. ET, FOX) with a spot in the Round of 16 on the line.

I'm backing a regulation draw in my Australia vs. Egypt prediction, expecting a contest blanketed by parity. While rankings are often somewhat arbitrary, I reckon Australia's 28th and Egypt's 26th FIFA rankings offer an accurate glimpse of what will transpire on the pitch.

Egypt is the marginal +145 betting favorite. As part of the World Cup best bets, I'm featuring Mohamed Salah as my goal-scorer pick.

⚽ Who will win Australia vs. Egypt?

Egypt tied two of their three group games, and Australia tied their Group D finale against Paraguay. There's not a lot to choose between these teams, and I believe parity will be the name of the game for Friday's Round of 32 match.

While which team progresses feels like a toss-up, I'm going with Egypt to edge it in extra time or penalties. However, the contest has extra time or penalties written all over it.

Score prediction: Australia 1 - 1 Egypt (Egypt progresses after penalties)

💵 My best bet: Regulation tie (+185)

Australia has looked compact and tight defensively most of the tournament. While they conceded two goals against the USMNT, Australia kept clean sheets against Turkiye and Paraguay.

They dominated possession and bossed proceedings for the most part in the 0-0 stalemate against Paraguay, and I expect their fast wingers and forwards (Jordan Bos and Mohamed Touré) to cause a few issues for Egypt.

Speaking of Egypt, they played things close to the vest against Iran and Belgium, and I expect the same against Australia. Their 3-1 win over New Zealand was reminiscent of Australia's win over their neighbors in a recent friendly.

Mo Salah, F, Egypt (+205)

Salah scored against New Zealand in the group stage, and he netted four in five World Cup qualifiers. The 34-year-old isn't as quick as he once was, but he still represents one of Egypt's best scoring threats.

This will likely be his last World Cup, and he has a superb chance to make the most of it against a team that is ranked 28th in the world.

It's been a World Cup where the marquee players have stood tall, and I expect Salah to follow suit despite having a comparatively subpar season at Liverpool, where he scored 12 goals in 41 matches.

Best Australia vs. Egypt goal-scorer pick: Mo Salah (+205 via DraftKings)

🥅 Will both teams score in Australia vs. Egypt?

I doubt it will be high scoring, but both teams should get on the scoresheet. Australia created a ton of chances against Paraguay without finding the net, and their defense is slightly more susceptible than their two clean sheets suggest.

Turkiye created a few Grade A opportunities against them, and Paraguay were content to sit back and accept the 0-0 draw. Egypt scored at least one in five straight.

Egypt has a decent attacking contingent, which should lead to a goal from each squad. They have scored at least one in five straight.

Both teams to score (BTTS) pick: Yes (+120 via BetMGM)
