After nearly four years of waiting to see Nate Diaz back in an MMA cage, fans will finally get their wish when the 41-year-old Stockton slapper makes his long-anticipated return in a highly intriguing bout with bare knuckle boxing champion Mike Perry on May 16th in a featured bout on MVP’s upcoming mega show.

Both men have a career finish rate of 80%, and matchmakers got this one right as the fight is sure to deliver violence, much to the delight of fans at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. We're going to take a closer look at key stats in my official early Diaz vs. Perry predictions and betting preview.

All the action goes down live on Netflix on May 16th, with prelims beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET, followed by the main card at 8 p.m. ET. Current betting lines favour Nate Diaz as a -225 favourite on the moneyline.

🔮 Nate Diaz vs. Mike Perry preview: What to know

Neither man has competed in MMA for quite some time, with Diaz’s last outing a decision win over Tony Ferguson in July 2024, while Perry has not fought in a mixed martial arts contest in over five years after losing a decision to Daniel Rodriguez, which ended his UFC career back in 2021.

Both men, however, have been keeping busy during their time away, with the 41-year-old Diaz going 1-1 in professional boxing and Perry going 6-0 in bareknuckle boxing, including capturing the BKFC world title.

Both fighters have spent recent years perfecting their striking technique, but now back in a full rules MMA contest, everything is on the table, and oddsmakers are siding with Diaz as a (-225) betting favourite.

Nate Diaz (-225) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If this were a bare-knuckle boxing match, Perry’s aggressiveness and forward pressure in a small ring might give Diaz problems. But in a full rules MMA fight, “Platinum Mike” just doesn’t possess the rest of the tools required.

The 34-year-old brawler held just a 7-8 record in the UFC and hasn’t had to grapple or throw kicks in over five years. Diaz was on his way back to the big show when an “offer he couldn’t refuse” fell on his lap, but make no mistake, even at 41, he should have more than enough to piece up a slow and one-dimensional Perry.
