A pair of young upstarts join the UFC middleweight heap on Saturday, as Caio Borralho meets Gadzhi Omargadzhiev in the co-main event of the promotion’s latest fight night. Have a look at our Borralho-Omargadzhiev picks.
Another two former "Dana White's Contender Series" competitors will share a maiden voyage to the Octagon this weekend, with Borralho and Omargadzhiev meeting in a middleweight clash as the penultimate bout of Saturday’s bill in Vegas.
Both prospects earned their roster spots on the strength of emphatic first-round stoppages in 2021, albeit with far different methods. Borralho frustrated Jesse Murray by darting in and out of range before putting him away with a few blistering left hands in Round 1 of his last "Contender Series" matchup in October, while Omargadzhiev rode his wrestling before capitalizing on a scramble to tap Jansey Silva with a kneebar in the same frame just a week later.
Drastic clashes in styles are an increasingly rare sight in the cage, but we’ll be treated to just that when Borralho and Omargadzhiev make their first walks to the Octagon this Saturday. Will Borralho’s athleticism and striking be enough for a successful UFC debut, or will Omargadzhiev’s stifling top control earn him the nod and preserve the 0 on his record?
Here are my Borralho-Omargadzhiev picks and predictions for this clash of UFC middleweight newcomers (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook; pick confidence is based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Borralho vs. Omargadzhiev Odds Analysis
Given that he and Borralho both won impressively in their respective "Contender Series" showings, it’s likely Omargadzhiev’s perfect 13-0 record that makes him the slight favorite in this middleweight clash. Caesars Sportsbook has the Russian at -135, with FanDuel going as high as -148.
Borralho, on the other hand, has earned some respect from the oddsmakers, with lines on a successful UFC debut ranging from +105 to +120.
Caio Borralho Betting Profile
The 29-year-old Borralho needed two walks to the "Contender Series" cage to earn his UFC contract. When a decision win over Aaron Jeffery in September 2021 wasn’t enough, the Brazilian returned just three weeks later, made quick work of Murray, and rid the UFC brass of any doubts over his upside. The swift turnaround required a move up to light heavyweight, but Borralho now makes his first walk to the Octagon at his natural weight class in pursuit of his 10th straight victory.
A natural athlete with a habit of bouncing in and out of range, the southpaw will aim to keep his fight with Omargadzhiev in space and hit paydirt with his thunderous left hand for the upset.
Gadzhi Omargadzhiev Betting Profile
Before making his way to Vegas for his clash with Silva, Omargadzhiev collected a dozen victories on the Russian and European circuits, and claimed most of them before the final horn. The latest of many Russian wrestlers to have punched their stateside ticket, the 29-year-old has earned many wins with takedowns, top control, and a natural instinct for snatching necks and pounding out his foes when such opportunities arise.
Omargadzhiev displayed every one of these skills in his "Contender Series" showing, during which he appeared content to chew the clock until a scramble from Silva left him ripe for a nasty kneebar.

Borralho vs. Omargadzhiev Predictions
Omargadzhiev (-125)
It’s hard to bet against the wrestler in matchups like Saturday’s, and I doubt Omargadzhiev will need long to catch Borralho overcommitting and bring the fight to the mat. Regardless of whether Borralho treats Omargadzhiev to a few stinging left hands or tries working from the outside, a few well-timed level changes from the Russian wrestler should put his opponent on his back.
Omargadzhiev’s smothering top game will keep his opponent there long enough for the win.
Omargadzhiev by submission (+550)
In his win over Silva, Omargadzhiev seemed content with chewing the clock until the scramble that ended it all, so if you’re looking to make things interesting, a tapout win would do it.
Assuming Borralho won’t just accept his position should he be dragged to the mat, he'll try to shake himself loose sooner or later, and that's when Omargadzhiev should catch him in transition for a fight-ending submission.
