Champions League odds contender Man City doesn't have a good track record against Real Madrid recently, losing three straight while picking up just one win in the last seven. However, Real Madrid is enduring a poor run of form, primarily thanks to a rash of defensive injuries. 

Eder Militao suffered a first-half hamstring injury against Celta Vigo on Sunday, with Dani Carvajal (knee), Trent Alexander-Arnold (thigh) and Ferland Mendy (hamstring) also unavailable. Dean Huijsen and David Alaba are questionable.

That could prove catastrophic against a Man City side that has at least three goals in seven of its previous nine matches in all competitions. Real Madrid saw its unblemished home record in La Liga go by the wayside on Sunday, with Xabi Alonso's side losing 2-0 to Celta Vigo. 

That result made it two wins in the previous seven matches across all competitions for Los Blancos, who dropped points to a Girona side currently in the relegation zone. Even though City hasn't returned to the peak of its powers, it is in much better shape entering this Champions League matchup. 

The best sports betting sites have reached a consensus, all pegging Man City at +145 odds. Those odds imply a 40.82% win probability. If City secures its first win at the Bernabeu since 2020, a $10 wager will profit $14.50.

Erling Haaland vs. Real Madrid's defense 

This pick was a toss-up between Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, with the latter leading the goal-scoring race by three. Mbappe has nine goals, while Haaland only has five. 

The reason I decided to go with Haaland is Real Madrid's depleted rearguard, which is hanging on by a thread. Several of its starters will be unavailable for the match.

If anyone will take advantage of a shorthanded defense, it's the towering Norwegian, who leads the Premier League with 15 goals in as many matches. Despite not scoring in the first four matches against the Spanish giants, Haaland bagged a brace the last time he faced them.
