🏆 Champions League qualification scenarios

Manchester City: The Cityzens' easiest path to qualification is a win at Fulham. A draw against the Cottagers will also see Pep Guardiola's side through on goal differential.

Elsewhere, a draw between Chelsea and Nottingham Forest would clinch Champions League football for Man City. If Newcastle or Aston Villa drops points - or Forest beat Chelsea, and both the Toons and Villains win - Man City get through, again on goal differential.

Newcastle: Newcastle, like Man City, is in with a win. A draw against Everton plus a draw at the City Ground would see the Toons through on goal differential. Aston Villa dropping points would mean a draw is enough for Eddie Howe's men. Lastly, losses by Newcastle, Chelsea, and Aston Villa would mean the former stays put.

Chelsea: The Blues are the last "win and in" team in this scenario. A draw would be enough for Enzo Maresca's group if the Villains drop points at Old Trafford. The same is true if Newcastle lose to Everton. Chelsea could still secure UCL football with a loss through goal differential if Aston Villa and the Toons are beaten, as well.

Aston Villa: Unai Emery's team must secure points away at Manchester United to earn a place in next season's Champions League. A win paired with Man City losing, or Chelsea or Newcastle dropping points, would see Aston Villa into the top five. A draw and a Newcastle loss would also be enough for the Villains.

Nottingham Forest: Despite being in the unlikeliest position, the Reds' scenario is simple. Nuno Espirito Santo's squad must beat Chelsea and hope for an Aston Villa or Newcastle loss. That is the only way that Nottingham Forest will play in the Champions League for the first time in 45 years.

🔮 European qualifying predictions

Manchester City (-160 at Fulham) and Newcastle (-320 vs. Everton) are in the two best positions to secure Champions League football heading into matchday 38. The Cityzens and Toons are minus-money odds to win their fixtures against opposition that sit 10th and 13th in the Premier League table, respectively.

The tie that has the most implications on the qualifying results is Nottingham Forest vs. Chelsea.

These two sides are deadlocked in their last five meetings dating back to 2020, with one win apiece and three draws. They split the spoils at Stamford Bridge back in October, with Chris Wood's goal acting as the opener. The Blues struggled to break down a stubborn Reds defense, even when the latter went down to 10 men.

As such, Maresca's men could find it even more difficult to leave the City Ground with all three points. This is especially true considering Chelsea will be without a proper No. 9, as Nicolas Jackson serves a three-match ban for a red card at St. James' Park.

The Blues have been wildly unpredictable in recent months, especially away from home. This opens the door for Aston Villa, who are tasked with beating a woeful Manchester United side that has four league wins in as many months.

Emery's squad needs a win and just one of the teams above them to drop points to move into a position to qualify for the Champions League.

Seeing as oddsmakers at our best sports betting sites are apprehensive about the results elsewhere in the table, specifically in West Bridgford, there's value in betting on the Villains in this spot. A $10 wager would profit $12 if Aston Villa secures a spot inside the top five on Championship Sunday.
