Les Bleus kick off their World Cup campaign with an intriguing match against 16th-ranked Senegal on Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET (FOX, Telemundo, Peacock) from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

I'm backing the 2018 champions in my France vs. Senegal prediction, but it won't be easy. Senegal cruised through World Cup qualifying, suffering no defeats in 10 matches. However, France usually activates their best form at World Cups. While it might take a match or two to showcase that top level, they should have just enough to secure all three points.

France, the World Cup co-favorite with Spain, is a -212 betting favorite to beat Senegal. I've also provided a goal-scoring prop as part of these World Cup predictions.

⚽ Who will win France vs. Senegal?

While France didn't perform well in the pre-tournament friendlies, losing 2-1 to the Ivory Coast and beating Northern Ireland 3-1, Les Bleus usually come to life on the grandest occasions. Senegal didn't lose in 10 qualifying games, but France represents a massive step up in competition.

Senegal also struggled in their pre-tournament friendlies, losing to the United States and tying Saudi Arabia.

Score prediction: France 2, Senegal 1

💵 My best bet: France and Under 3.5 goals (-105)

France is the World Cup co-favorites for various reasons, including a roster jam-packed with top-tier talent. Les Bleus also has a knack for showing up well at major tournaments, having finished second in the last World Cup and winning the tournament in 2022.

They might concede a goal, but France has won nine of the previous 11 matches, with their only loss coming in a friendly to Ivory Coast.

🦶 Who will score in France vs. Senegal?

Follow all of our expert soccer betting analysis for the 2026 World Cup.

Kylian Mbappe (-105)

Kylian Mbappe has one of the best goal-scoring records at the World Cup, netting 12 times in 14 matches. He won the 2022 Golden Boot, thanks to his hat trick in the final against Argentina. Mbappe is four goals shy of tying Miroslav Klose's record of 16.

He hasn't scored in four appearances for the national team, but only one of those consisted of a 90-minute performance. Despite a somewhat tumultuous season, Mbappe picked up 42 goals in 44 appearances.

I'll take those odds every time.

Best France vs. Senegal goal-scorer pick: Kylian Mbappe (-105 via FanDuel)

🥅 Will both teams score in France vs. Senegal?

France has struggled to keep clean sheets recently, allowing at least one goal in seven of the previous nine matches. Senegal scored at least one goal in the previous 11 matches.

That, however, includes the goal they scored in extra time of the Africa Cup of Nations Final against Morocco, which Senegal later forfeited.

Senegal was last shut out against Brazil in November 2025. While a 2-0 final is a distinct possibility, I'm going with the notion that France won't be at their best defensively until a bit later in the tournament.

Both teams to score (BTTS) pick: Yes (+110 via BetMGM)
