If the New Jersey Devils are to make the playoffs, they'll have to run the table down the stretch.

While that idea may be a bit of a stretch, the Devils have quietly won four straight games, and I’m backing them to make it five in my Red Wings vs. Devils prediction. New Jersey welcomes Detroit to the Prudential Center for tonight’s matchup (7 p.m. ET, ESPN) as a slight -108 underdog on the moneyline. Although the Red Wings come in with the rest advantage, they’ll be without captain Dylan Larkin, a loss that has historically been significant, as Detroit has struggled mightily in games he’s missed.

💰 Red Wings vs. Devils prediction & best bet

Devils ML (-108)

Finally, the Devils are heating up, with four straight wins. Jake Allen should get the start after a busy patch for Jacob Markstrom. Losing seven of the previous eight to no fault of his own, Allen allowed more than three goals just once in the last five.

That spate of no run support for Jake Allen is about to end, as the Devils scored 15 in the previous three games. The Red Wings will be without their injured captain, Dylan Larkin.

With how well the Devils are playing and the momentum they've built, playing on successive nights should benefit them.

Score prediction: Devils 4, Red Wings 2

❓What is the Red Wings record without Dylan Larkin?

The Red Wings do not fare well without Larkin, who will miss tonight's game after suffering what is being referred to as a day-to-day injury against the Panthers.

The Red Wings are 16-27-6 without Larkin in the lineup, according to StatMuse. That's a putrid .389 points percentage. Larkin hasn't missed any games so far in the 2025-26 season, notching 55 points in 63 games.

🔥 Best Red Wings vs. Devils player prop bet

Jack Hughes Over 3.5 shots (+120)

Unsurprisingly, Hughes returned to New Jersey a more menacing Devil after scoring the golden goal against Canada. He hit the Over on this total in three of the previous four games, registering five shots in each of those successes.

Hughes attempted 25 shots in the last five games, an average of 5 per game. In the four Overs, he had 22 attempted shots. The gold-medal winner will be raring to get back on the ice after his hat trick on Saturday against the Rangers.

💡 Jack Hughes bonus player prop (Anytime goal scorer)

On Saturday, Hughes scored for the first time in eight games. Did he ever make up for lost time, though, scoring his second hat trick of the season.

Sure, the Rangers aren't exactly world beaters. Regardless, Hughes will have some extra pep in his step for today's encounter, and I'm backing him to light the lamp again.

Best odds: +190 via FanDuel (0.5 units -> 0.95)

📊 Live Red Wings vs. Devils odds

The Devils' odds shortened from -115 to between -108 and -110, which I find slightly curious. Sure, the rest of the disadvantage is clear, but the Red Wings don't have their captain, and New Jersey has hit a sweet patch of form.

💡 How I'm betting Red Wings vs. Devils

Follow all of our NHL analysis and expert predictions this season.

The Devils are as hot as what the afterlife must be like for grave sinners.

Hughes is among the Devils bursting with confidence. That combo is deadly, and I expect the team to carry on where it left off on Saturday.

The lack of rest might actually benefit Sheldon Keefe's team, who probably can't wait to get back on the ice.

With how well they are playing, I'm devoting a unit to a moneyline win and the Over 5.5 goals. Hughes also gets a full unit after emphatic displays over the last week. Each unit is $10.
