My early Vikings vs. Cowboys prediction examines the opening odds for this all-important Sunday Night Football matchup, as Dallas’ playoff chances are on life support. Kickoff from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, is set for 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC/Peacock).

My early picks and NFL predictions for Week 15 expect a big bounce-back for the Cowboys as a 6-point home betting favorite, as they had several positive trends working for them before last week’s loss to the Lions.

Stay ahead with the rest of our early NFL picks for Week 15.

Cowboys -6 (-110) ⭐⭐⭐

Dallas fell as the latest victim in the Detroit Lions' NFL-record 15th straight victory following a loss. But it had several positive things going for it before that Thursday night defeat, and I expect it to get back to it against an overvalued Vikings team coming off their largest shutout win since 1980.

Before their bye week, the Cowboys defense had allowed 30.8 points per game, 397.4 yards per game, a 53% third-down percentage, and a 65 Total QBR (all ranked bottom five in the NFL). After the bye entering Week 14, Dallas had improved upon those numbers to 21.7 points per game, 312.3 yards per game, a 35% third-down percentage, and 47 Total QBR allowed.

Dallas also converted a respectable 40% of its third downs last week. That continued a trend of improving from 37% last year (ranked 23rd) to 44% entering last week (fifth-best).

Lastly, I expect a marked improvement from Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in the red zone. Over the first 12 games, he completed 63% of his passes and had a 14% off-target percentage in the red zone. Last week, he completed just 33% of his red zone passes and was off-target on 44% of those throws (he had the second-most red zone completions in the NFL entering last week).

A $10 winning wager through DraftKings’ -110 odds at a 52.38% implied probability would net $9.09 in profits if the Cowboys cover the six-point spread.

Vikings vs. Cowboys opening odds

  • Moneyline: Vikings +240 | Cowboys -295
  • Spread: Vikings +6 (-110) | Cowboys -6 (-110)
  • Over/Under: Over 48 (-110) | Under 48 (-110)

Vikings vs. Cowboys line movement

Some of the best sports betting sites, like FanDuel and Caesars, are currently at +6.5 and priced as high as -118 to take the points with the underdogs. The fact that the juice is so high on the underdogs this early in the week suggests the line at those shops is much more likely to align with the rest of the market at +6 than at +7.

The total ranges from 47.5 on the low end of the market to 48.5. But since Minnesota is coming off a shutout victory and Justin Jefferson has just 15 receiving yards in the last two games combined, I expect sharp action to side with the Under and the general public to get caught up in the fact that Dallas’ previous game had 74 total points scored.
