While we could see a premium on points between two of the league’s top defenses, our Texans vs. Chargers same-game parlay envisions both quarterbacks using their legs in a game that could determine the favorability of their respective playoff seeds.

The action for Texans vs. Chargers kicks off from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., today at 4:30 p.m. ET (NFL Network). The Chargers are a 1.5-point betting favorite as part of our NFL Week 17 predictions.

Chargers moneyline (-122) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Chargers are 4-2-1 against the spread at home this season, while the Texans have struggled on the road (3-4 ATS). The Chargers should be motivated to keep their wild-card standing as the No. 5 seed, and I trust the L.A. offense more than Houston’s to break through against a strong defense.

When the spread is -1.5, I have a personal stance that I always take the moneyline to avoid unnecessary heartbreak. With the new overtime rules, in particular, there’s an increased chance of these projected close games coming down to a one-point margin.

Our Mike Spector is backing Houston to cover a 2.5-point spread in his Texans vs. Chargers predictions.

Justin Herbert Over 24.5 rushing yards (-110) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Houston is near the top of the NFL in virtually every defensive category but ranks a more middling 18th in the league against the quarterback run. The Texans have allowed 276 QB rushing yards across 15 games.

Justin Herbert’s rushing prowess has been on display more consistently this season, as he has dashed for 24 or more rushing yards in nine out of 15 games played (60%).

Our Gary Pearson targets Herbert to find the end zone using his legs as part of his Texans vs. Chargers anytime touchdown scorer predictions.

C.J. Stroud Over 13.5 rushing yards (-113) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Chargers have ranked similarly against running quarterbacks compared to the Texans, allowing 267 yards on the ground to QBs this season. C.J. Stroud hasn’t been quite as mobile as Herbert recently, but that’s reflected by this meager line at 13.5 yards.

Stroud has cleared this rushing line in six of his 12 games played this season. While FanDuel has the line at 12.5 rushing yards, their overall SGP odds of +466 pale in comparison to the +500 parlay odds we get from DraftKings.
