Week 9 NFL Parlay Predictions
Bills-Jets Under 47 (-110)
The following are the passing yard totals for Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen against the New York Jets in the last four meetings: 239, 366, 307, 312. Yet, Buffalo has scored more than 27 points just once in those games, and the two teams have exceeded a combined point total of 44 just once. Allen has not thrown for more than two touchdowns in any of the seven head-to-head meetings with New York, suggesting the Jets do an excellent job of playing a bend-but-don't-break style of defense.
New York felt the absences of running back Breece Hall and OL Alijah Vera-Tucker in last week's loss to New England. The Jets entered that game ranking first with 5.6 yards per rush with Hall on the field and 29th with a 3.6 yards per rush average with Hall off the field. New York followed up those numbers with 51 rushing yards on 15 carries (3.4 YPR) in its first game without Hall last week, and one cannot trust Zach Wilson to carry the Jets offense without benefitting from a solid running game.
We also expect Wilson to be under constant duress, as the Bills have recorded two or more sacks in seven consecutive games, the second-longest streak to begin a season in team history.
Dolphins-Bears Over 44.5 (-110)
Chicago is coming off its most points allowed in a game (49) since 2014, which included touchdowns on the Cowboys' first four possessions. Offensively, the Bears have found a little better rhythm, with three consecutive games of 200-plus rushing yards for the first time since 1968.
On the other side, Miami's Tua Tagovailoa is coming off his first career game with 300-plus passing yards and zero touchdowns. The wide receiver duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle continues to be a nightmare for opposing defenses, especially since the former is coming off his league-leading fourth game with at least 150 receiving yards.
Miami's defense shut out Detroit in the second half last week, but as long as Chicago does not fall behind by double-digits, the Bears should be able to rely on a bruising running game to move the ball consistently against the Dolphins.
Early forecasts call for abundant sunshine and manageable 15-mph winds in Chicago on Sunday, so the weather should not impact this total.
Seahawks-Cardinals Over 50.5 (-110)
With his stellar play to begin the season, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith has put himself in company with Allen and the Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes. Smith leads the league in completion percentage above expected and trails only Allen and Mahomes when combining that metric as a ratio with EPA per play.
Since the calendar turned to October, Seattle has a top-five passing and rushing offense. And while these two teams combined for just 28 points (each team's lowest-scoring game to this point) in the first matchup, regression suggests we should be in for a much higher-scoring affair. The Cardinals had two turnovers and allowed six sacks in the first matchup, but we have already seen wideout DeAndre Hopkins's impact since his return from his suspension. And we do not expect Seattle to settle for four field goals this time, especially with an offensive balance behind running back Kenneth Walker III that it did not have previously.
