How will the Carolina Panthers respond in their first game under a new head coach?

A midseason coaching change can spark an underachieving group, but can it help the woeful Panthers turn things around? We’re betting that it will - on one side of the ball, at least - in one leg of our Week 6 NFL parlay picks.

Week 6 NFL Parlay Predictions

Ravens ML (-225)

At first glance, this looks like a lot of points to spot a New York Giants team that is off to a 4-1 start and tied with Dallas for second in the NFC East, a game behind the unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles. I’m not willing to lay nearly a touchdown on the road with the Ravens, but I still think there’s value backing Baltimore on the moneyline.

Two of New York’s four victories came over the Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears, and none of them have come by multiple scores. Full credit to New York for its impressive second-half rally to beat the Green Bay Packers last week in London, but it’ll be hard to repeat that type of effort coming off a trip across the pond.

The biggest edge the Ravens have in this game, however, is on the ground. Saquon Barkley and the rushing attack have keyed any offensive success New York has enjoyed this season, but it’ll be harder to run effectively against a solid Baltimore front, putting Daniel Jones and the Giants’ 31st-ranked passing attack into third-and-long situations. On the other side of the ball, New York ranks 26th in the NFL in run defense and will next face the league’s most mobile quarterback in Lamar Jackson.

Rams team total: Under 26.5 (-120)

Carolina finally dropped the axe on Matt Rhule, firing its third-year coach following the Panthers’ 11th loss in 12 games on Sunday. Steve Wilks will be Carolina’s interim head coach for the rest of the season, and he doesn’t get a chance to ease into the job with his first task being a visit to the defending Super Bowl champion Rams.

Many bettors like to back teams in their first game under a new head coach, banking on a focused performance, but I’m not interested in supporting a Panthers attack that will be led by unheralded backup quarterback P.J. Walker. Instead, I’d much rather count on a spirited effort by an underrated Carolina defense that has held four of five opponents this season under this 26.5 total. Even though the Panthers did allow 37 points last week, seven of those came on an interception return for a touchdown.

L.A.’s struggling offense is the other part of this equation. The Rams have gone Under the total in six of their last seven games going back to last season, and they’ve scored 10 or less in three of their first five games this year. Matt Stafford doesn’t look comfortable throwing the ball to anyone other than Cooper Kupp, and he’s taking a ton of hits behind a Rams offensive line that isn’t what it used to be.

Cardinals -2.5 (-115)

For whatever reason, the Arizona Cardinals play their best football when they’re on the road. Arizona has won 10 of its last 12 games as the visitor, a stark contrast to its eight-game losing streak at home. Going back several seasons, the Cards are a sizzling 20-7-2 ATS in their last 29 games on the highway, going Under the total in 20 of those contests.

They’ve also had plenty of success recently in Seattle, covering six of their last seven visits to the Seahawks. Kyler Murray and the Cards should be able to move the ball with ease against a Seattle defense that has given up 84 points in its last two games, and I’m not convinced that  Geno Smith’s hot start to the season is sustainable. Expect the road team to cover for the 12th time in the last 16 meetings between these NFC West rivals.
