Luke McCaffrey was becoming a reliable option in the Washington Commanders’ offense before going down to injury on Nov. 2 against the Seattle Seahawks. Below, we will dish out a McCaffrey injury update and look at dates for when he could be back on the field. We will also look at McCaffrey’s fantasy football stock and the Commanders' betting odds.

🩹 When will Luke McCaffrey return and be back for the Commanders?

McCaffrey was injured on the opening kickoff of Washington’s Sunday Night Football showdown with Seattle, when a cadre of Seahawks players slammed him to the ground. The second-year WR landed directly on his collarbone, and it was later revealed to have fractured.

Most NFL players return from a broken collarbone in 6-12 weeks. If McCaffrey is to return this season, it would not be until late in the regular season. Here is a look at the Commanders’ schedule to close out the campaign.

  • Week 16 Saturday, Dec. 20: Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Commanders
  • Week 17 Thursday, Dec. 25: Dallas Cowboys at Washington Commanders
  • Week 18 Saturday, Dec. 27 or Sunday, Dec. 28: Washington Commanders at Philadelphia Eagles

⏳ How long will Luke McCaffrey be out for?

A good comp for McCaffrey’s situation is that of Packers WR Jayden Reed. Reed broke his collarbone in Week 2 of the season, ironically against the Commanders.

That game occurred on Sept. 11, and Reed is just now getting back into the fold for the Packers. Reed has been out for 11 weeks.

If McCaffrey follows a similar timeline, he would be ready to return in mid-January. Of course, the Commanders will almost certainly not be playing postseason football in 2026, so his return then would be moot.

An accelerated recovery of six weeks would put him in line to play in the Commanders’ final few games of the season.

With the Commanders’ playoff hopes looking bleak, to be kind, it is unlikely they try and rush McCaffrey back. This will most likely prove to be a season-ending injury for the young WR.

🏈 Luke McCaffrey fantasy football stock

McCaffrey was starting to get picked up on the waiver wire in some deep fantasy leagues. He posted three receiving TDs on the season.

The Rice University product had the most productive stretch of his NFL career during late September and early October of this year. Here is a look at his numbers.

  • Week 3 vs. Raiders: 3 catches, 56 yards, 1 TD
  • Week 4 at Falcons: 2 catches, 21 yards, 1 TD
  • Week 5 at Chargers: 1 catch, 50 yards
  • Week 6 vs. Bears: 1 catch, 33 yards, 1 TD

McCaffrey went undrafted in most fantasy drafts this past summer.
