The football world will be watching as two Super Bowl odds contenders meet on Sunday Night Football in Week 6, and I break down this huge matchup with my Lions vs. Chiefs prediction.
The Chiefs are the 1.5-point betting favorite according to the opening odds ahead of the 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff from GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. (NBC). However, my NFL picks are instead focusing on a play on the total (48.5).
With a loaded slate, make sure to stay on top of all of our early NFL predictions for Week 6.

⬆️ Over 48.5 (-115) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A lot can change in 24 hours, as this line has the chance for a lot of variance given that the Chiefs play on Monday Night Football. However, the value is certainly there at FanDuel for this early prediction, as this total is a full point lower than the rest of the best sports betting sites, which offer an O/U of 49.5.
Detroit’s 174 points are its most through five games of a season in franchise history. And Kansas City’s offense found its groove in Week 4 with the return of wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
Entering Week 5, the Chiefs ran 44 plays with Worthy on the field. In that span, they passed for four touchdowns, averaged 6.9 yards per play, and completed 71% of their passes. In the 208 plays that Worthy was off the field, Kansas City threw for just three touchdowns, while averaging 4.9 yards per play and completing 59% of its passes.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was pressured on a season-low 27% of dropbacks against the Ravens in Week 4. If he receives similar pass protection against the Lions, the Chiefs should be able to do their part in scoring points.
If the Over cashes, my $10 winning wager at these 53.49% implied odds would net $8.70 in profits.

💡 Lions vs. Chiefs odds analysis
Detroit has moved from a 2.5-point underdog on the lookahead line to a 1-to-1.5-point ‘dog after its 37-24 win over Cincinnati. This line movement is curious since most expected the Lions to handle their business against the Bengals, while the Chiefs did not even play on Sunday.
Given that Detroit seems to be a popular side already, this line would almost assuredly jump the fence if Kansas City loses to Jacksonville in the Week 5 Monday Night Football matchup. It is not like Mahomes being a home underdog is unprecedented, as the Ravens were just favored at Arrowhead Stadium two weeks ago.
Thus, Lions backers may not get a better number later in the week than they are getting now.
Seventy percent of the early wagers on the total have backed the Over, and most have already ticked up to 49.5. That is why I rushed to the betting window to lay my early wager down on the only 48.5 available, as this number should creep into the 50s at some point during the week.
