Will Justin Herbert play tonight? The star quarterback is listed as questionable in the latest injury report for Monday Night Football (8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN) with his Los Angeles Chargers hosting the Philadelphia Eagles at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

That said, there's growing optimism that one of the preseason MVP favorites can suit up tonight and help the Chargers pull off the upset as part of our NFL predictions for Monday Night Football.

When Herbert went down last week against the Las Vegas Raiders, it felt unlikely that he'd suit up just eight days later. That felt even more tenuous after he underwent surgery earlier this week to repair a fractured finger on his non-throwing hand.

But the Chargers QB didn't miss any practice ahead of tonight's MNF clash with the Eagles, and the quarterback said earlier this week that he expects to play on Monday Night Football. The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that teammates expect him to play, which has been the sentiment from coaches this week, too.

So, while Herbert is officially listed as questionable to play this week, all signs point toward the Pro Bowl passer playing through injury tonight. Herbert has already earned a reputation as one of the toughest players in the NFL, so as long as he isn't risking long-term injury by playing tonight, there's a good chance he'll be out there.

If Herbert is inactive tonight, backup QB Trey Lance would be set to make his first start for the Chargers and just the sixth of his career since he was drafted third overall in 2021. He completed his only pass last week for nine yards and hasn't thrown a touchdown pass since his rookie season with the San Francisco 49ers.
