The days leading up to Week 2 are a key stretch in each fantasy football season. There’s always plenty of overreaction going on from managers this week if they endured a subpar start to the campaign. On the other hand, others are far too gun-shy this time of year when it comes to picking up key free agents who could wind up winning a league.
Here, we’ll make NFL predictions for Week 2 involving the top fantasy football waiver picks, and also examine those players’ NFL player props.

🔥 Kayshon Boutte Over 34.5 receiving yards (-115) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
When in doubt, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye throws the ball to Boutte. The LSU product has been emerging as Maye’s security blanket, and he was the most productive offensive member of the Patriots in Week 1, catching six balls for 103 yards against Las Vegas. Maye targeted him eight times.
Boutte was slow out of the gate last season, but New England quarterbacks were looking his way early and often come late October. Boutte was targeted an average of five times per game from Oct. 27 of last year to the final week of the season.
The wideout and the Pats play the Miami Dolphins in South Beach this Sunday. Miami was projected to field one of the worst defenses in the NFL heading into the season, and the Dolphins certainly lived up to that billing in Week 1, giving up 33 points to the Indianapolis Colts. Indy wide receiver Michael Pittman caught six balls for 80 yards and a TD. Expect Boutte to enjoy similar success against a lackluster defense during Patriots vs. Dolphins.
The best odds for Boutte to go Over 34.5 yards come from the -115 at BetMGM. That would lead to an $8.70 profit on a $10 bet.
🔥 Quentin Johnston Over 43.5 receiving yards (-118) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Johnston was tremendous against the Chiefs last week, catching five balls for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Jim Harbaugh appears to be fully comfortable with letting Justin Herbert sling it this season, meaning that Johnston will still get plenty of targets despite the presence of fellow Wideouts Ladd McConkey and Keenan Allen in that offense.
Johnston and the Chargers play the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2, and they're underdogs in the Monday Night Football odds. The Raiders' defense mostly took away New England’s top receiver, Stefon Diggs, this past weekend. That left the door open for one of New England’s secondary receivers - the aforementioned Boutte - to enjoy a significant game. I expect head coach Pete Carroll to employ a similar strategy against the Chargers, as they’ll likely zero in on McConkey. That could lead to plenty of looks for Johnston.
Las Vegas comes in with an entirely new coaching staff, but Johnston’s best game as a pro came against the Raiders. He hauled in 13 grabs for a whopping 186 yards during Week 18 last season.
BetMGM is putting the total for Johnston's receiving yardage at 43.5 ahead of Chargers vs. Raiders. A $10 victorious bet at -118 betting odds would net $8.47 in profit.
🔥 Juwan Johnson Over 3.5 receptions (-105) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The New Orleans Saints will likely not win many games this season, but it appears they'll at least go down slinging the ball all over the field each week. Saints QB Spencer Rattler threw a whopping 46 times in Week 1, with 11 of those attempts aimed at Johnson. He finished the game against the Arizona Cardinals with eight catches for 76 yards. Only Chris Olave was targeted more.
I don’t love the 49ers vs. Saints matchup this week against a decent San Francisco defense. But the Saints are at home in the dome and will not be afraid to chuck it. Johnson should again be one of Rattler’s top targets.
BetMGM initially set Johnson's reception total at 3.5. A $10 bet on the Over at -105 would net $9.52 in profit.

How do NFL player props work?
Player props are wagers on individual performances rather than the outcome of the game. Common props include passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards, and touchdown scorers. For example, if a QB’s passing yards line is set at 250.5, you can bet the Over (251-plus yards) or Under (250 or fewer yards). You can also bet on if a specific player will score a touchdown in the entire game, the first or last touchdown, and more NFL odds.
