Well, at this point, it's clear that New England Patriots QB Drake Maye suffered a shoulder injury ahead of Super Bowl 2026, but does it really matter? We're having a look at a Drake Maye injury update and see if there is any betting impact that we can draw on as his squad prepares to face the Seattle Seahawks.
Maye's Patriots are a 4.5-point underdog just five days out from Super Bowl 60. Sunday's action from Levi's Stadium is set to get underway at 6:30 p.m. ET, airing on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
🩼 Drake Maye injury report updates
The team and quarterback have stopped short of saying what the injury actually is, but we do know that he fell awkwardly on his throwing shoulder in the later stages of the AFC Championship game. The injury first gained mainstream attention from Dr. David Chao (ProFootballDoc on X).
Make no mistake: following the point that the injury supposedly occurred, the Patriots leaned heavily on their run game. But also, they were nursing a lead and milking the clock via the run game in a blizzard. It's hard to know whether that was related to the supposed injury or to the game script.
Here's a look at the progression of the Pats' signal-caller via injury reports of the last week.
- Wednesday, Jan. 28: Limited, right shoulder (*projected, no actual practice)
- Thursday, Jan. 29: Limited, right shoulder
- Friday, Jan. 30: Did not practice, right shoulder/illness
- Monday, Feb. 2: The Patriots did not release a formal injury report, but held a 90-minute practice in which Maye participated
- Tuesday, Feb. 3: The Patriots are not scheduled to practice today
🤢 Touch of a cold
Maye missed Friday's practice with an undisclosed illness, but the quarterback has made it clear he's over whatever held him back.
But, speaking to the media on Monday, he said he was fully recovered and that he had actually showed up to the practice to watch following the media's departure. "...some sickness was going around the locker room, but I'm feeling really good," ESPN quotes him as saying.
🗣️ What is Drake Maye saying?
No surprise here: Maye is downplaying any issue with the shoulder. He spoke with the media on Monday, stating that he threw as much as he would have in a normal practice. If he was limited, he sounded like a man who didn't want us to know.
🟢 Maye's opposite
While Drake Maye has Patriots fans and bettors worried about the state of his shoulder, Seattle fans and bettors have their own concerns. We break down the state of their signal-caller in our Sam Darnold injury update.
💰 How to bet on Drake Maye injury
With the limited information we have about Maye's injury, there's very little that we can derive from the injury. Given the clandestine nature of this type of thing in the leadup to the Big Game, you'll either want to continue on as totally normal if you think he's fine, or perhaps consider one of the following if you think he's downplaying the extent of his limitations.
- Drake Maye longest completion: if his AC joint is confirmed to be injured, the team and QB may be a little less likely to try to push deep passes. You might want to grab the Under now before the line pushes lower.
- Rhamondre Stevenson total carries: the Patriots have been leaning heavily on their veteran running back in the postseason, and if Maye is indeed injured, we're likely to see a heavier workload at Super Bowl LX.
- TreVeyon Henderson total carries / total receptions: Rhamondre's rookie backfield mate has seen limited action in the playoffs, but if the Pats lead heavy in the run game, Henderson could see extra carries and targets.
