The Bears are riding high off a win over the Steelers, and at 8-3, they now sit atop the NFC North. Head coach Ben Johnson has this team rolling, and I expect them to build on that momentum versus a reeling Eagles squad. Johnson’s Bears are 7-4 against the spread overall and 4-2 against the spread on the road. The market just isn’t giving them the respect they deserve.

But the big needle-mover for me is the Eagles’ inability to get themselves out of a slump under head coach Nick Sirianni. When they’re good, they’re good, but when they’re bad? Not so much. The Eagles are an NFL-worst 8-14 (36.4%) against the spread after a loss under Sirianni. They are the only such team with a sub-40% record over that sample, which dates back to 2021.

Another key is the likely rough injury report for the Eagles. Cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, safety Reed Blankenship, and safety Andrew Mukuba all suffered injuries versus the Cowboys and did not return. The Eagles won’t have the talent in the secondary required to prevent Johnson’s passing offense from generating explosives, and I expect the Bears to cover.

The spread for this game opened at 6.5, but with the Eagles’ injuries in the secondary, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it close at around 6 or 5.5. The market hasn’t quite reacted how I would expect it to, which may be due to some injury uncertainty on the other side, but Chicago has a better shot to get key pieces back than Philadelphia. 

The total for this one opened at 46.5 but is already down to 44.5 despite the injuries to Philadelphia’s secondary. I don’t understand that movement. The weather isn’t a concern (although it would be if this game were on Sunday). Don’t be surprised to see this number tick back up a handful of points before kickoff.
