My Milwaukee vs. Indiana prediction analyzes if the Hoosiers can avoid a letdown after their big win against Marquette over the weekend, as they begin a five-game homestand. The game, from Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind., will start at 7 p.m. ET (FS1).

Indiana is a 23.5-point betting favorite, but I am backing the Panthers to use their depth to earn the road cover while also limiting the Hoosiers’ best player.

Indiana’s non-conference matchup against Marquette on Sunday had many intrigued to see how its roster, comprised mostly of former high mid-major players, would fare against a Big East squad.

While Indiana passed the test with flying colors, the 100-77 rout has led to an inflated line in this matchup.

Is Indiana overvalued?

Not taking anything away from Indiana’s big win over Marquette, but the Golden Eagles didn't match up stylistically.

Before playing Indiana, Marquette allowed 70 rim points in its first two games against inferior Albany and Southern opponents and it is not built to take advantage of Indiana’s perceived lack of physicality in the frontcourt.

Milwaukee, projected as the Horizon League favorite in the preseason poll, won't get much betting support in this matchup after losing to Wofford by 10 last week. 

Still, the Panthers returned plenty of talent from last year’s 22-win team, led by preseason All-League Second Team Faizon Fields. However, it has been a pair of transfers, Seth Hubbard and Amar Augillard, who have led the team, averaging 31.6 points between them.

The Panthers should have plenty of clean offensive trips, as their 12.1% turnover rate thus far ranks 31st. Despite playing on Monday, Milwaukee has covered 58.3% of its games since 2022 with a rest disadvantage. This is its second of three games in five days, but it should deploy its deep bench that has accounted for 39.3% of the minutes this year.

Milwaukee’s point spread is as low as +22.5 at the opposite end of the market. But I am taking advantage of the best number and price at BetMGM, whose -110 odds at a 52.38% implied probability would net $9.09 in profits on a winning $10 wager.

Tucker DeVries vs. Milwaukee defense

Tucker DeVries did it all for Indiana in its win over Marquette. He scored 27 points on an efficient 9-of-15 shooting, as head coach Darian DeVries took advantage of his son’s versatility.

DeVries should not need to be utilized as much against Milwaukee, given the differences in this matchup. Against Marquette, senior point guard Tayton Conerway was erased by the combination of Sean Jones and Chase Ross. Ross entered the game without allowing a single point in ball screen defense. 

Conerway scored just four points (all on free throws) while attempting just three shots from the floor. With Conerway's increased involvement, DeVries will have a reduced role to play.
