On paper, it looks like one of the most compelling matchups of March Madness as No. 3 Michigan State looks to keep rolling into the Elite 8 over No. 2 UConn. With slim margins expected, my Michigan State vs. UConn prediction leans into the value of the underdog.

The action tips off from Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. on Friday, March 27, at 9:45 p.m. ET (CBS). UConn is a 2.5-point favorite as part of our March Madness predictions.

🏆 Who will win Michigan State vs. UConn?

See the latest March Madness odds for every team in the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

I'm taking Michigan State to win this one by two points. The Spartans have a slight edge on KenPom, particularly in offensive efficiency, and are more adaptable to mitigate UConn's preference for a glacial tempo.

Score prediction: Michigan State 68, UConn 66

💰 Michigan State vs. UConn prediction & best bet

Michigan State +2.5 (-115)

I'm viewing this as a matchup with razor-thin margins as Michigan State (ninth) and UConn (10th) rank directly beside one another in the KenPom ratings. It's a situation where I'd be liable to bet either side as an underdog, and the small movement on this spread since it opened at UConn -1.5 lands me on the side of the Spartans if you're giving me +2.5 like we're seeing at DraftKings with -115 odds.

UConn has been favored in every game it has played this season, but the Huskies are just 14-22 ATS (38.8%) on the season. On the rare occasions that Michigan State has not been favored, the Spartans are 3-2-1 ATS as an underdog

🔥 Best Michigan State vs. UConn player prop bet

Jeremy Fears Jr. Over 9.5 assists (-140)

Because UConn poses one of the most significant threats of any team in the nation when it comes to stifling opposing assists (allowing just 10.8 per game, 12th-fewest nationally), we're seeing a prop line on Jeremy Fears Jr. that he's cleared in all three of his postseason games this month.

Fears' 16 assists in Sparty's win over Louisville set a Michigan State NCAA Tournament single-game record. While the matchup is imposing, Fears Jr. is playing at one of those March Madness ascendant levels that feels untouchable as we're witnessing it. I mean, he's breaking Magic Johnson's records, after all.

Over his past three games, Fears Jr. is averaging 13.3 assists per game. If I'm losing a prop bet on this game that feels so limited on a discernible edge, I'm going down swinging on the guy dishing out helpers at a historic rate.

🚀 Michigan State vs. UConn same-game parlay

Jeremy Fears Jr.'s assists total going Over runs in correlation with Michigan State +2.5 but it runs as a contradiction to the full-game total going Under. We're getting really strong odds as a result of that contradiction, since it's a tight needle to thread, but because it's a longshot parlay, we're applying only 0.25 units to the SGP.

💵 Michigan State vs. UConn SGP picks

  • Michigan State +2.5
  • Under 136.5
  • Jeremy Fears Jr. Over 9.5 assists

Best odds: +550 via bet365 (0.25u -> 1.38u)

💡 How I'm betting Michigan State vs. UConn: March Madness strategy

Follow all of our college basketball analysis and expert predictions for March Madness.

I'm keeping these bet sizes limited to a unit per wager as this is arguably the game of the Sweet 16 where I see the least substantial edge on either side between two evenly matched foes.

If I feel most strongly about anything, it's Jeremy Fears Jr. continuing his otherworldly efforts in distributing assists to his teammates, but given the strength of UConn at limiting opposing assists, we're keeping the prop bet as a one-unit play, too.

📊 Live Michigan State vs. UConn odds: March Madness Sweet 16

UConn opened as a 1.5-point favorite and has interestingly seen some of the sportsbooks move to between -2 and -2.5. I'm not sure that movement will have any additional energy beyond 2.5 points, as offering up more than a possession's worth of points to either side would seem like a mistake. After opening at 136.5, the total has remained there across our best sportsbooks.
