Illinois might be a 3-point underdog against Houston, but it has serious matchup advantages in this March Madness Sweet 16 matchup. The Fighting Illini don't turn the ball over, and they will be a tougher challenge on the glass for the Cougars.

As a result, my Illinois vs. Houston player props believe the underdogs have a bit more value than the market would suggest. Get my March Madness predictions before tipoff at 10:05 p.m. ET on Thursday at the Toyota Center in Houston on TBS.

šŸ’° Best Illinois vs. Houston prop bet

See all of our March Madness prop bets for the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

David Mirkovic Over 7.5 rebounds (-139)

Illinois ranks third in the nation with an offensive rebound rate of 39.2% and 32nd on the other end with a defensive rebound rate of 26.8%.

Freshman forward David Mirkovic could play a big role in the Fighting Illini's ability to hold their own on the glass. He leads the team with an offensive rebound rate of 10.4% and a defensive rebound rate of 20%. He's averaging 7.9 rebounds per game this season, clearing this line in 16 of his 34 games.

With this rebound prop as high as 8.5, I love scooping up the value at Caesars.

🟠 Illinois' offensive rebounding is key

In my  Illinois vs. Houston prediction, I dive deeper into why Illinois' rebounding will be key to keeping it close as an underdog against the Cougars.

Keaton Wagler Over 3.5 assists (-125)

Another way the Cougars have succeeded this season is by forcing turnovers. When they haven't forced turnovers, they are beatable, as evidenced by a three-game skid in February.

Again, Illinois is set up for success in this department. The Fighting Illini have an offensive turnover rate of 13.1% this year, which ranks ninth in the sport. Their 6-foot-6 point guard Keaton Wagler won't be bothered by Houston's physicality at all.

Wagler is averaging 4.4 assists per game, clearing this line in 19 of his 34 games. More importantly, BetRivers is offering a bargain for this Over. The same ticket costs as much as -200 at FanDuel.

Emmanuel Sharp Under 2.5 3-pointers (-110)

Illinois will force a lot of mid-range jumpers with its drop coverage, taking away the 3-point line in an attempt to win the math game of this matchup. The Fighting Illini rank 35th in 3-point defense this year.

Houston will be happy to follow that shot diet. The Cougars only get 33.9% of their scoring production from the long ball. Emmanuel Sharp is the team's best 3-point shooter, knocking down 94 triples on the year. He's finished with two or fewer triples in 20 of his 36 games this season.

I'd play this Under at -120 or better as a four-star play.

šŸš€ Illinois vs. Houston same-game parlay

My Illinois vs. Houston same-game parlay has odds of +325 at bet365. I had to sacrifice some value on Mirkovic's rebound line, as the total is up to 8.5 at most shops. This SGP focuses on the Fighting Illini being underrated, so all three legs are correlated.

💵 Illinois vs. Houston SGP picks

  • David Mirkovic 7-plus rebounds
  • Keaton Wagler Over 3.5 assists
  • Emmanuel Sharp Under 2.5 3-pointers

Best odds: +325 via bet365 (0.1u -> 0.32u)

šŸ’” How I'm betting Illinois vs. Houston props: March Madness strategy

Follow all of our college basketball analysis and expert predictions for March Madness.

If Houston rolls to an easy win, I'll tip my cap and probably lose all my bets. But I just think the Fighting Illini are being undervalued in this matchup, particularly due to some of their schematic advantages.

As a result, I've allocated three units between three plays, which is more than I'd typically risk for a second-weekend game in the NCAA Tournament. That's how strongly I feel about my handicap of this game.
