Will Victor Wembanyama play tonight?

After speculation that the San Antonio Spurs star could return for the NBA Cup quarterfinals against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, Wembanyama will reportedly need more time and is listed as out for the game. His calf strain has kept him out of action for 11 games, during which the Spurs have gone 8-3. Although he traveled with the team to New Orleans on Monday - raising hopes for a return - he still needs more time to fully recover.

When will Victor Wembanyama return?

While Wembanyama traveled with the team for San Antonio's Monday contest against the Pelicans, he'll sit out at least one more game. The Spurs get a week off following tonight's NBA Cup tilt, with the potentail for his return coming at home on Dec. 17 against the Washington Wizards.

Head coach Mitch Johnson told reporters earlier this week that the franchise star is progressing toward a return and will travel with the team to Los Angeles as a precaution, though he hasn’t officially been cleared to play yet.

Through 12 games, the French big man is putting up 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, four assists, and 3.6 blocks per game while shooting 50.2% from the field. If that production holds, he’s a lock for All-Star and All-NBA consideration. He’s currently priced at +22500 to win NBA MVP.
