The Atlanta Hawks and four-time All-Star point guard Trae Young are reportedly working on a trade that would have him leave the team that acquired the former fifth overall pick on the night of the 2018 NBA Draft. The 27-year-old is averaging 19.3 points, 8.9 assists, and 1.5 rebounds per game through just 10 games this season, while the Hawks are 17-20 and 10th in the Eastern Conference.
We make our Trae Young next team predictions based on the best odds from prediction markets, with the Washington Wizards quickly emerging as the favorite to trade for the star guard.

This market opened on Monday, Dec. 29, with the Hawks as the favorite to retain Trae Young (or for him to retire) with a 41% chance. At that time, the Wizards had just a 6% chance of acquiring Young (+1567 betting odds).
A week later, the Wizards have become the favorite by the latest odds with a listed 56% chance at Kalshi of swinging a trade (-127 odds). This market has drawn $37,382 in trading volume over the past week, but that number will rise as the trade reports heat up.
The Dallas Mavericks (23%), Milwaukee Bucks (1%), and Minnesota Timberwolves (8%) are the other teams drawing action early in the process.
❓ Who will trade for Trae Young?
| Team | Chance | American betting odds | Yes price (cents) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bucks | 1% | +9900 | 8 |
| Wizards | 56% | -127 | 75 |
| Timberwolves | 8% | +1150 | 8 |
| Mavericks | 23% | +335 | 48 |

It costs 46 cents at Kalshi to buy stock in the Wizards - the favorite in this prediction market - to trade for Young. Placing $100 on this prediction would return a profit of $128 if they complete the trade.
💰 Trae Young next team prediction: Timberwolves
The Timberwolves have made four consecutive playoff appearances and are 23-13 to start the 2025-26 campaign. They lost in the Western Conference Finals each of the past two years and carry NBA championship odds of +4500 at the time of writing.
Young would immediately form one of the NBA's best backcourt duos alongside Anthony Edwards, who leads the team with 29.4 points per game this year. Power forward Julius Randle is the only other Timberwolves player averaging more than 20 PPG (22.3), while four others score in double figures.
The Timberwolves are also close to full health near the midpoint of the season, giving them a full arsenal of trade chips. After coming oh-so-close two years running, it's time for them to deal from their wealth of depth and add another star.
That's what's needed for Minnesota to compete with the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs in the loaded Western Conference. Doing so while the Denver Nuggets (23-12, fourth in the West) remain without Nikola Jokic would be the perfect time.
🔁 Why would the Hawks trade Trae Young?
Simply put, Young just hasn't been the difference-maker the Hawks expected him to be when acquiring him on draft night - a move that sent Luka Doncic to Dallas instead of Atlanta. While Young is a four-time All-Star, he's led the team to just three playoff appearances and none in the past two years. He's managed to played 70-plus games just three times since his rookie season and will fall well below that mark this year.
Young's two years removed from leading the NBA in assists per game, he won't turn 28 years old until just before next season, and he comes with another year of contract control. He could thrive somewhere else as a complimentary piece, and the Hawks could add multiple assets to the young core of Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels, and Zaccharie Risacher.
📜 What is Trae Young's contract?
According to Spotrac, Young carrying just shy of a $46 million cap hit this season, and he'll count just under $49 million against the cap in the final year of his contract next year. Whichever team were to trade for Young would likely want a commitment from the guard beyond the 2026-27 season.
That's another point in favor of the T-Wolves, in my books. The team is an established playoff contender with Edwards and Jaden McDaniels locked up through 2028-29 and Randle and Rudy Gobert signed through 2027-28.
🩹 Is Trae Young healthy?
As mentioned above, Young has been limited to 10 games played this season. He opened the season playing just five games before a knee injury kept him sidelined from Oct. 31 through Dec. 14. Young has since played just five additional games while being hampered by a quad injury. He missed the Hawks most recent game, a 118-100 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Monday.
