For the first contest of the year, I’ve put together a Rockets vs. Thunder same-game parlay. These NBA picks combine together to make a +522 ticket to help open the season on the right foot.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (NBC) at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.

It’s banner night in Oklahoma City. There seems to be this misconception that defending champions don’t perform as well on their ring night, but that’s certainly not the case.
Since 1946-47, defending champs are 62-16 in the regular-season openers the following year.
Despite missing Jalen Williams, Oklahoma City has enough talent to prevail against a Houston team that added Kevin Durant and will be starting a new point guard. The Thunder are the 7-point betting favorite, but I’ll start this parlay with their moneyline price, given the win rate of teams on ring night.
🚀 Amen Thompson Under 20.5 points + assists (-122) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This parlay will likely come down to my favorite prop for this game. I expect Amen Thompson to struggle in his first real test as Houston’s point guard against the best defensive team in the league.
This line has already dropped from 21.5 to 20.5 since I suggested it in my Rockets vs. Thunder player props, indicating the market is on my side. I project 14 points and four assists for Thompson, which is why I like this Under at 20.5 or better.
🚀 Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Over 29.5 points (-180) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander told Netflix in the newest season of “Starting Five” that he considers 30 points a bad game because it’s below his average. Well, 30 points would be good enough for us to cash this parlay.
The reigning MVP and NBA MVP odds favorite to repeat has a point prop of 32.5 for this game, a line he’s capable of clearing. But I prefer his alternate prop of 30-plus points, as he reached this threshold in 49 of his 76 regular-season games last year. That hit rate of 64.4% is slightly higher than the 64.3% implied probability of this -180 price tag.
🚀 Chet Holmgren Over 1.5 assists (-142) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
With Williams not in the lineup, Holmgren is Oklahoma City’s second-best player on opening night. He’s the obvious candidate to replace Williams’ 21.6 points and 5.1 assists per game on offense.
Holmgren’s assists prop was typically trading at 1.5 last year. He cleared it in 17 of his 32 regular-season games. There is a reason this Over has climbed from -105 since I placed my bet, so I'm adding it as a fourth option to my Rockets vs. Thunder parlay.
