The Celtics and Lakers clash for the inaugural meeting of the season, each team charting contrasting paths. Lakers' recent form shows just one win in their last five games, whereas the Celtics have emerged victorious in seven of their last eight matchups.

Jayson Tatum stands out as the top scorer in encounters between these teams, averaging 26.9 points per game. Within his last eight games, he has hit the 30-point mark three times.

On the Lakers' end, Anthony Davis maintains an average of 24.4 points and 12.4 rebounds per game, showcasing his consistent performance.

Anthony Davis Under 26.5 points (-125 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Davis has been on fire this month, and seeing this number so low is shocking. He’s scored 30 or more points in five of his last seven games, and he scored 26 on Saturday against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Oddsmakers could have set this at 28.5 and bettors likely would have taken the Over. Instead, they set it at 26.5 and even gave the Over an enticing price.

So, why are we taking the Under?

Davis does most of his damage inside, which is exactly where the Celtics are at their best. They’re allowing just 45.1 points per game in the paint, which is the fourth-best mark in the league.

Davis could continue to light up the scoreboard in this one, but in a very difficult matchup, we don’t imagine him going Over his season average. We’d like to get this at a better price, but we will still take -125.

LeBron James Under 8.5 assists (-102 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐

James has dished out at least seven assists in five consecutive games. In four of his last five, he’s recorded at least nine. However, the Celtics are one of the best teams in the league at preventing assists, allowing just 24 per game.

James is averaging 9.5 assists per game this season, but he averaged just 6.3 per contest in November and 6.5 per game in October. If you’re playing well, the Celtics are the perfect team to face to force you back down to or below your season average.

The price for this prop is great. James has been recording a lot of assists of late, but to get this so close to +100 provides great value, especially when considering the matchup.

Jayson Tatum Under 38.5 points + rebounds (-115 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

For as good as Tatum has been this season, he hasn't topped this number very often. He’s gone seven games without combining for more than 38 points and rebounds. During that seven-game span, Tatum even pulled down double-digit rebounds in three games and still didn’t hit this Over.

Tatum can have explosive games, but he’s scored more than 30 points in only three of his last 17 games. If he scores 30 or fewer on Christmas, then he will need to pull down a lot of rebounds to hit this Over.

The Lakers are allowing 51.5 rebounds per game, which is 13th in the league. But even in what could be viewed as a favorable matchup, this is way more than what Tatum has been doing of late. And the price is more than fair.
