Knicks -6 (-112) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The spread moved from New York -5 to -6 after it was announced that Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby would rest during Tuesday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. That’s because the Knicks have a clear rest advantage on Thursday.
Cleveland will be playing its third game in four days when it travels to New York. The Knicks’ rest spot against the Wolves marked the only other game they have played this week entering Christmas Day.
The Cavs have the worst record against the spread this season, as they’ve failed to meet preseason expectations. The Knicks, meanwhile, have the fourth-best ATS clip. I’m banking on a lopsided matchup.
Knicks first-quarter spread -1.5 (-122) ⭐⭐⭐
In addition to the full-game spread, I’m comfortable backing the Knicks to cover the first-quarter line. The rest advantage is a factor, as well as New York’s performances in the opening period this season.
When playing at home, New York has the second-best net rating (+21.4) in the first quarter. Only the Oklahoma City Thunder (+21.7) have been better in that department.
The Knicks typically come out firing, as they are first in offensive rating (132) during the first quarter at home. The Cavaliers, meanwhile, have an average net rating of +3.8 in the first quarter. The Knicks shouldn’t have a problem starting in front.
Jalen Brunson Over 10.5 rebounds + assists (-114) ⭐⭐⭐
Knicks guard Jalen Brunson got a much-deserved night off after his performance against the Miami Heat on Sunday. He finished with 47 points, three rebounds, and eight assists in the win.
Brunson, who led the Knicks to an NBA Cup championship, has been playing like an MVP candidate of late. His rebound and assist numbers have been particularly notable, as he’s reached double figures in five straight contests for an average of 4.8 boards and eight dimes during that stretch.
For the season, Brunson is averaging 6.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game. I’m banking on him maintaining his all-around impact on Thursday.
