The Indiana Fever look to stay afloat tonight without Caitlin Clark on the road against the Mystics at CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C.. Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark will not be playing tonight against the Washington Mystics. Indiana announced on Monday that the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year is expected to miss at least two weeks after suffering a left quadriceps strain.

Being without Clark would normally be a huge issue for an Indiana team that tends to live and die by its superstar guard, but the Mystics have had just one winning season since 2020 for a reason. Even with a hot start this year, behind the play of Brittney Sykes and rookies Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron, the team has dropped three straight.

In those three losses, the Mystics averaged just 69.3 points per game after putting up 92 per game in their opening wins of the season. However, those wins came against the Atlanta Dream and Connecticut Sun, both of whom rank in the back half of the league in points allowed per game.

Meanwhile, the Fever rank No. 3 in defensive rating (94.9) behind the rim protection of former No. 1 pick Aliyah Boston, who sits second in the league in blocks per game (2). The Fever's defense should be able to slow the rookie combo of Iriafen and Citron to pull off a decisive win without Clark.

It's not as if Indiana doesn't have offensive talent without her. Boston is one of two players in the W averaging 18-plus points and double-digit rebounds, the other is three-time WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson. And she'll have support from Kelsey Mitchell (17.8 PPG), who should have an even larger role without Clark.

The Boston-Mitchell combo can expose a Mystics defense that's in the back half of the league in rating (101.1). And Washington doesn't have the offense to keep up, it's fourth-worst in rating (100.6).

Clark gets most of the attention, but she's not the only former top pick living up to the hype in Indianapolis. Boston has leveled up in her third season in the WNBA after averaging under 15 points per game in her first two seasons.

Now, the South Carolina product is 12th in the W in points per game (18.5), third in field goal percentage (60.8%), and she has gone Over 17.5 in three of four outings - that includes a 27-point performance against the defending champion New York Liberty. Boston's size and physicality will likely be too much for Washington to handle.
