Thursday's matchup between the New York Liberty (12-3) and Los Angeles Sparks (4-11) already looked like a potential blowout for the Liberty, who are 14.5-point favorites. This was before the Sparks lost one of their most promising young players to a knee injury.
Rookie Cameron Brink tore her ACL in her team's 79-70 loss to the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday, and she won't be available for Thursday's game, which tips off at 7 p.m. ET from Barclays Center.

Sparks vs. Liberty predictions for Thursday

We were on the wrong side of a backdoor cover in the Sparks' uninspiring loss to the Sun on Tuesday, and they're once again catching a big number against the best team in the WNBA by my estimation.
I'm a little gun-shy to bet New York on the spread, which has ballooned to -14.5, but I don't see Los Angeles slowing down Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones, and the rest of this fearsome Liberty attack. That's especially true after the injury to Brink, who ranked second in block rate (8.7%) and 24th in defensive win shares (0.6).
New York should be plenty motivated in this one after Tuesday's loss to the Phoenix Mercury snapped its WNBA-best eight-game win streak. Even in defeat, the Liberty still scored 90-plus points for the third straight game and rank first in offensive rating across the entire season (107.1) and in the month of June (110.4).

Jonquel Jones Over 16.5 points ⭐⭐⭐⭐
While Stewart gets most of the attention within New York's top-ranked offense, Jones is also a former MVP winner who has certainly looked the part of late after a slow start to the year.
The 6-foot-6 center is averaging 25.5 points over her last four starts, shooting a blistering 67.9% from the field and 60.9% from deep. She's cleared this total in all four games and six of her last nine amid a dramatic increase in shot volume (and efficiency) from the first month of the season.
With Brink no longer patrolling the paint for Los Angeles, I'm bullish about Jones clearing this total for a fifth straight game at these reasonable -115 odds, which pay out $8.70 for every $10 bet.

Dearica Hamby Under 16.5 points ⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you've been reading my WNBA coverage this season, you might think I have a personal vendetta against Hamby. I certainly don't and instead hold a high opinion of the Sparks star ... just not as high as our best live betting sites.
We've made a killing in recent weeks fading Hamby, who started out hot but has scored 16 or fewer points in four straight games. She's trending in the wrong direction, too, with 10 points on Sunday and just eight points on Tuesday.
She took a season-low eight shots in that most recent loss to the Sun and made just three baskets for the second straight game. I don't necessarily expect that poor of an effort on Thursday, but something clearly isn't right for Hamby and I'll keep fading her scoring totals until that changes.
