We're just past the midway point of the year, which means chatter tied to year-end awards will slowly pick up, and the Nobel Peace Prize odds lay out the main likely candidates for one of the world's most prestigious honors.

The award is given annually to a person or organization that "has done the most or best to advance fellowship among nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies, and the establishment and promotion of peace congresses," according to Reuters.

There are 338 candidates nominated this year, according to the Nobel Prize Organization, including 244 individuals and 94 organizations. Several of the best sports betting apps are offering odds ahead of the winner(s) being named on Oct. 10.

Yulia Navalnaya (+195)

Yulia Navalnaya is the widow of Alexei Navalny, the former leader of the opposition in Russia. She continues to play a significant role in the Russian opposition.

She told BBC last October that she intends to one day be President of Russia. “My political opponent is Vladimir Putin," she said. "And I will do everything to make his regime fall as soon as possible.”

She currently lives in Germany and also leads the Human Rights Foundation and the Anti-Corruption Foundation.

🔮 Nobel Peace Prize prediction

Donald Trump (+210)

Trump has long coveted a Nobel Peace Prize, and finding a resolution for the conflict in Ukraine would likely increase his chances. That's no easy task, of course, though recently Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the American President that he's nominating him.

Momentum in Ukraine is still elusive, but Trump continues to press for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. He's also set back Iran's nuclear operations, albeit through a military strike of his own.
