New York has had a habit of playing down to its competition this year. But with the postseason beginning later this month, the Liberty are playing some of their best basketball of the season.
Breanna Stewart and Co. have won four straight after Tuesday's 14-point win over the Wings, which followed wins over the Aces and Storm (x2). The Liberty have now faced Dallas three times in the last month - winning all three by an average of 14 points.
They've also been impressive this year when facing an opponent twice in a row. That's happened six times before, and New York won all 12 games (first and second leg) with three double-digit wins in the encore matchup.
Can Wings avoid 2nd straight blowout?
Conversely, Dallas has struggled to stay competitive when facing a familiar foe.
This matchup marks the fifth time the Wings have played an opponent in back-to-back games. They've lost all four previous times in the second leg - three times by 8-9 points with a 24-point loss to the Storm in July.
It's also hard to ignore that the Wings don't have a whole lot to play for, as they're one of just two teams (Los Angeles Sparks) officially eliminated from the playoffs. Perhaps it isn't a coincidence Dallas has lost five straight while getting outscored by 10 or more in the first quarter in three of them.
