The 2024 CFL season kicks off with a rematch of last year's Grey Cup between the Montreal Alouettes and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and we have you covered with our best Alouettes vs. Blue Bombers predictions based on the top CFL odds.

Winning the 2023 Grey Cup despite being comprehensive underdogs, the Montreal Alouettes surprised most football fans. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have a chance at a morsel of redemption when they welcome the Alouettes to Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg. Kick off is at 8:30 p.m. ET (TSN/RDS, CFL+).

Despite their Grey Cup victory over Winnipeg, the Alouettes enter this season opener as 7-point underdogs. With Zach Collaros and Brady Oliveira leading the charge, both strong contenders according to the CFL Most Outstanding Player odds, the Blue Bombers also kick off the season as title favorites by the Grey Cup odds.

Here are our best Alouettes vs. Blue Bombers predictions for CFL Week 1 (odds via our best sports betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Alouettes vs. Blue Bombers prediction

Blue Bombers -7 (-115 via Betway) ⭐⭐⭐

No team in the CFL has been as consistently dominant as the Blue Bombers. They've played in four straight Grey Cups under head coach Mike O'Shea, winning two (2019, 2021). While Montreal pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the CFL season to snatch the title away from Winnipeg last year, it's the Bombers who look poised to be playing in the championship again.

On paper, Winnipeg has by far the best offense in the CFL. Collaros is a two-time CFL Most Outstanding Player winner and he's got the best running back, and Canadian, in the CFL behind him in Oliveira. That one-two punch alone is terrifying, but the Bombers also return their top four receivers from last season, including All-Stars Dalton Schoen and Nic Demski.

This same group led the CFL in yards per game (431.4) and points per game (33.0) last season. Winnipeg also happens to have a ferocious defense led by Willie Jefferson that ranked first in yards allowed per game (319.6) and points allowed per game (20.9) last season. As for Montreal, QB Cody Fajardo is back, but star receiver Austin Mack is gone as he tries to make the leap to the NFL.

Without a doubt Montreal should be one of the best teams in the CFL this season, however, Fajardo's inconsistencies remain a concern against a refreshed and vengeful Bombers squad. Seven points is a lot, but Winnipeg has the talent to cover at home. The odds imply a 53.49% win probability, according to our odds converter, with a $10 bet paying out $8.70.

Alouettes vs. Blue Bombers first team to score

Blue Bombers (-172)

Betting into this market can be a little tricky, especially in the CFL with rouges throwing a little chaos into the scoring system. Obviously whoever starts with the ball will immediately have the advantage, but these odds are so short for a reason. While they may be too short to justify betting into, Winnipeg's ability to score quickly with Collaros as their trigger man and an overall abundance of talent gives the Bombers the edge.

Another key factor is the fact that Winnipeg has one of the league's best kickers in Sergio Castillo. Castillo went 46-for-51 last season (90.2%) and has the leg to hit from 52-plus. With their weapons and trusted kicker, these odds imply a 63.24% probability the Bombers score first. A $10 bet pays a $5.81 profit.

Alouettes vs. Blue Bombers odds

Alouettes vs. Blue Bombers odds via Betway as of Tuesday at 1:20 p.m. ET.

Teams Moneyline Spread Total
Blue Bombers -278 -7 (-115) Over: 47.5 (-115)
Alouettes +220 +7 (-105) Under: 47.5 (-105)

Entering the season, Winnipeg looks like hands down the best team in the CFL, even if Montreal beat them last season in the Grey Cup. Obviously, it's not easy to win by more than a touchdown, but Winnipeg did manage to go 11-7 ATS last season. Montreal was right there with them at 10-7-1, but the home field advantage and continuity of the Bombers gives them the leg up.

As for the total, these were two of the best defenses in the CFL last season, and Montreal is down their go-to receiver with Mack gone. That makes me slightly weary of this 47.5-point total, especially with Montreal going just 8-10 last season betting the Over. However, Winnipeg was the best Over team in the CFL at 13-5, so betting the total comes down to how confident you are in Fajardo.
