Alouettes vs. Argonauts prediction: Bend & break defense

CFL picks confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale.

Alouettes -1.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Argonauts have been a mess defensively for about a month now. During its 1-3 skid - which includes two losses to the lowly Hamilton Tiger-Cats - Toronto has allowed 30.5 points per game.

The pass defense has been particularly bad, with opposing quarterbacks averaging 318.7 passing yards per game in September against the Argos. And because of the poor play, Toronto is now allowing the third-most points per game in the league (26.8) and the second-highest QB rating (103.5).

Who better to take advantage of that than Fajardo? Even without star Tyson Philpot, the MOP favorite has plenty of toys to cook with in the passing game.

Montreal's scoring the fourth-most points per game (26.8), and Charleston Rambo, Walter Fletcher, and Cole Spieker are a formidable trio of playmakers.

Turnovers are no bueno

During the Argos September collapse, Kelly has been a turnover machine. He's gone full gunslinger mode - and not the good kind like his uncle Jim - by throwing six interceptions in four games.

That type of play is not going to fly against the Alouettes' defense. Montreal's allowing the lowest QB rating (87.5) and the second-fewest yards per game (366.9) and points per game in the league (21.4).

Toronto has failed to cover the spread in five of its last seven games, and if it doesn't once again, a $10 bet on Montreal pays a $9.01 profit.
