The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres kick off the MLB regular season one week before Opening Day with their two-game series in South Korea's capital, Seoul.
It's the perfect way to start the 2024 campaign, as these two teams feature some of the game's biggest stars, with none bigger than new Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani enters one of the most loaded lineups in all of baseball, and he and the Dodgers will look to make their mark before 28 other teams play a single regular-season game.

I've written before about how difficult it is to find value on Ohtani player props, and that'll likely prove to be an even bigger issue this season now that he's playing for the Dodgers. Therefore, if you want to bet on baseball's megastar, your best route is finding fun, long-shot bets and limiting your stake to maybe 0.25 units.
So, let's start with a bang.
Los Angeles is around a -200 favorite at our best sports betting sites to win MLB's season opener while Ohtani owns the shortest odds to hit a home run among all players involved in Wednesday's game.
When we build this bet as an SGP at either DraftKings or BetMGM, we're getting odds of only +340 for the Dodgers to win and Ohtani to homer.
Meanwhile, with this offering at FanDuel - listed in its home run/moneyline parlay section of batter props - we're getting far better +400 odds. Even by building this as an SGP at FanDuel, you're getting only +359 odds due to the positive correlation between Ohtani hitting a home run and the Dodgers winning.

We continue to back Ohtani to have a big Dodgers regular-season debut by taking the Over on his total bases prop.
Ohtani is poised to destroy NL pitching after hurting the feelings of starters across the American League for years. His first victim is set to be fellow countryman Yu Darvish.
The Japanese superstar ripped 78 extra-base hits in 135 games last year, and he performed better in road games vs. at Angel Stadium. Most of our other best sports betting apps are hovering around -125 or -130 to take the Over on 1.5 total bases for Ohtani, so we're placing this at bet365.
As you'll see by the increased confidence rating, this is a slightly "better" bet than either of the other two, but I'd still hesitate to place a full unit on it because there isn't a real edge on the price when running the leading projections against it.

Shohei Ohtani Over 0.5 stolen bases (+550 via DraftKings) ⭐
We're already backing Ohtani to dominate at the plate, so why not also bet on him to run wild on the basepaths?
Ohtani stole 20 bases in 2023, an uptick from the 11 he nabbed in 2022 and more in line with his career norm. Ballpark Pal projects Ohtani to record 0.23 stolen bases on Wednesday, though these +550 odds at DraftKings represent only a 15% implied probability of him recording a steal.
These odds are also much better than those offered at our other best sportsbooks, with the second-best price being bet365's +525 odds. Meanwhile, BetMGM prices an Ohtani stolen base at +475 and FanDuel is at +360, with the latter serving as the most "fair" price based on this projection.
Once again, this one-star bet comes with plenty of risk, and you should wager accordingly. However, it's the first game of the new MLB season, and the best player in baseball is involved. There are worse ways to spend a few dollars.
