The New York Mets used another offensive barrage to win their second game against the Detroit Tigers in this three-game series, and I break down this series finale in my Mets vs. Tigers prediction, part of the MLB picks.

The Mets are the slight -120 moneyline road betting favorite, but my Mets vs. Tigers best bet finds more value on the game’s total of O/U 8.5 runs.

First pitch for this highly anticipated interleague series finale from Comerica Park in Detroit is set for 1:10 p.m. ET (MLBN). Since I am expecting a slugfest this afternoon, I am naturally backing a Mets slugger to stay hot at the plate.

While this starting matchup between Clay Holmes and Casey Mize is the only one on Wednesday’s MLB slate between two pitchers with 11-plus wins, lately it seems their gaudy records are more a product of the team’s success than their individual pitching.

With little confidence in both righties, I am avoiding any moneyline or run line odds and making a play on the Over as my Mets vs. Tigers best bet.

Detroit’s 14 hits in Monday’s series opener were its most in a loss this season. That is because Mets slugger Juan Soto tied his career high with six RBIs, and New York turned in its sixth game of double-digit runs since the start of August.

The Tigers entered yesterday 4-6 in their last 10 games while pitching to a 4.96 ERA, then backed that up by allowing 12 more runs to a Mets team that has scored 22 through the first two games of the series.

While Detroit is 5-1 in Mize’s last six starts, it has provided him with more than eight runs of support per game in each win, while the opposition has scored five or more runs in each of the last four outings.

I am jumping on the Over at 8.5 before the best sports betting sites move to 9.0 or higher. That is a distinct possibility since the Over is juiced as high as -123 (carrying a 55.16% implied probability) at DraftKings. Through BetMGM’s -120 odds, a winning $10 wager would net $8.33 in profits.

The Mets just recorded their 12th game of four or more home runs this season, which broke a tie for the second-most in franchise history.

I would not put anyone off backing Mark Vientos’ +600 odds to hit a home run, especially since Mize served up four home runs in three August starts at Comerica Park.

But instead, I am making the safer play that has as high as a 37.74% implied probability at plus-money odds for Vientos to drive in a run as my best Mets vs. Tigers player prop bet.

Vientos has been red-hot of late, finishing August with 22 RBI, which was eight more than his previous high in any month this season. He faces Mize, who has pitched to a 6.00 ERA over the last two months, allowing a higher batting average and slugging percentage to right-handed batters than lefties this season.
