I bet on Vladimir Guerrerro Jr. to record two-plus hits against Israel, but he didn't start. However, I'm going back to that bet for the same reasons I made it in the first place.

With the lefty Rodriguez on the mound, I love this matchup for Vlad. He had the 10th-best batting average and sixth-best wRC+ against lefties this past MLB season. Additionally, he hits toward the top of the lineup, so it's entirely possible he gets multiple plate appearances against the left-handed starter.

Even if he doesn't, though, Venezuela has a number of lefty relievers, and with Vlad likely to hit behind Juan Soto, he may get to face a southpaw as a result of that matchup.

I also bet on Manny Machado to hit a home run in the Israel game, and, unfortunately, the opposition mostly refused to pitch to him. Machado took three walks and was hit by a pitch, recording only one official at-bat.

I think we see Venezuela throw Machado some strikes in what should be a much more competitive affair, and, much like Vlad, he was a menace against lefties in 2025. Machado hit 12 homers against southpaws, the sixth-most in baseball.
