We were on the wrong end of Monday's extra-innings thiller, but I truly can't believe the Padres aren't dealing as bigger favorites ahead of this rematch tonight.

San Diego trots out ace Dylan Cease (4.72 ERA), who has endured a frustrating start but has been better than the surface stats suggest with a 3.20 FIP and 3.24 SIERA - both top-20 marks among qualified starters. He also boasts MLB's second-best swinging strike rate (15.9%), a positive sign for regression.

I'd much rather back him than likely Dodgers starter Matt Sauer (3.05 ERA). The 26-year-old owns a career 5.11 ERA and has allowed multiple runs in three straight appearances, all in four innings or less. I don't expect him to have much success against the Padres' bats - especially Manny Machado, who is hitting a sizzling .389 in June with at least two total bases in five straight games.
