New York’s starting pitching was a big reason for its recent 1-11 slide. And even though Kodai Senga has not looked great since coming off the IL, I expect positive regression as a key factor in my Braves vs. Mets prediction.
In five starts following a one-month IL stint, Senga has allowed three or more earned runs three times and recorded at least 15 outs just once.
But Senga is also the most dependable Mets pitcher to improve their 29th-ranked starters’ ERA and MLB-worst ranking in innings pitched since June 13, as he has a 2.42 ERA and .215 OBA in nine starts at Citi Field.
Despite Senga’s recent struggles going deep in games, New York is 8-1 in his last nine starts, making for a confident Braves vs. Mets best bet.
I also love what the Mets lineup did in Tuesday’s emphatic 13-5 victory, hitting six home runs with two outs. That tied a record for most two-out home runs by a team in a game in the expansion era (since 1961), and three of those blasts came from the No. 8 and 9 spots in their lineup.
