With Bo Bichette's future with the Toronto Blue Jays in doubt, I take a look at a handful of teams that could sign him in the offseason.

Where will Bo Bichette play next? If you're a fan of MLB, it's a question that's run through your mind at least once or twice. And if you're a Blue Jays fan, it may be haunting your dreams and causing you to look up at the ceiling at night.

There are plenty of teams in the running when it comes to Bichette's next team odds, most of which are close to the top of the World Series odds. So let's dig in, answer some questions surrounding the shortstop, and ultimately see which team is the best fit.

💰What is Bichette's contract situation?

Bichette's last contract was a three-year, $33.6-million arbitration deal, with his new contract projected to be five years and around $150 million, per ESPN Insider Kiley McDaniel.

Bichette will turn 28 by Opening Day, though his 2025 season was cut a bit short. He appeared in 139 games and wrapped up the season with 3.8 fWAR.

Known as one of baseball’s premier contact hitters, Bichette brings added value with his ability to handle premium defensive positions. Even if shortstop isn’t his long-term home, his skill set comfortably fits in the middle of the infield.

We already know the Blue Jays are willing to spend after signing Dylan Cease, Kazuma Okamoto, Cody Ponce, and Tyler Rogers this offseason, while re-signing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to his monster $500-million deal last year. They've ultimately spent $337 million this offseason alone, and they may not be done, either, which is why Toronto is coming in at -180 to bring Bichette back.

📝 What teams are favorites to land Bichette?

Although the signing of super-utility man Okamoto muddies the water for Bichette's return to Toronto, the Blue Jays are still the resounding favorites to bring him back. However, there are other teams in this race.

According to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman in the New York Post, the Yankees (+1000), Cubs (+5500), and Dodgers (+1500) are all showing interest as well. Heyman also notes that both New York and Chicago have been listening on trade calls for their current second basemen - Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Nico Hoerner, respectively. Adding to that, if Bichette moves to second base, this could clear a pathway for him to play for either team.

A new team has since entered the race, though, and that's where the best value lies, in my opinion.

Team Odds to sign Bichette World Series odds
Toronto Blue Jays -180 +1400
Boston Red Sox +380 +1600
Atlanta Braves +1500 +1300
New York Yankees +1000 +1000
Detroit Tigers +1500 +3000
Los Angeles Dodgers +1500 +260
Philadelphia Phillies +2200 +1200
San Diego Padres +2200 +2200
Houston Astros +3000 +1600
Colorado Rockies +3000 +50000

What we see here is that most teams interested in Bichette are World Series contenders (outside of the Colorado Rockies - sorry, Rockies fans). Bichette undoubtedly has a huge market for himself this year after slashing .311/.357/.483 while once again proving he's one of the best contact hitters in baseball. Let's not forget he doesn't shy away from the big moments, either.

We'll see a shift in the World Series odds and the rest of the free-agent market once he or Kyle Tucker ultimately find their new team. But who will it be? And which team offers the best fit?

⚾ What position will Bichette play?

While Bichette has played shortstop his entire career, there's a good chance he'll move over to second base in order to get a deal done. He debuted at second base in the World Series following his knee injury and has said he's willing to change positions full-time, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. This would open up his market and make him available to teams like the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies, who could go all-in on his services.

🟥 What team will Bichette play for in 2026?

The Philadelphia Phillies are in a prime position to make this deal happen.

With Trea Turner firmly parked at shortstop and Bryson Stott slotted in as the everyday second baseman, the Phillies aren’t exactly hurting up the middle. Stott’s been solid - especially with the glove - but adding Bichette would be a significant upgrade at the dish. Philadelphia already boasts a scary lineup, and Bichette’s bat would only turn the volume up.

Philadelphia is a huge sports town, and David Dombrowski is known for making splashes. If Bichette is willing to take his talents to second base, the Phillies might be the perfect destination for a team that wants (and needs) to win now. At +2200, I'll take those chances.

📊 Bichette stats, 2026 projections

Bichette career stats

Bichette has been one of the most consistent hitters up the middle in his career, so, of course, plenty of teams are looking for his services.

Year Team GP AB R H RBI BB SO AVG
2025 Blue Jays 139 582 78 181 94 40 91 .311
2024 Blue Jays 81 311 29 70 31 20 64 .225
2023 Blue Jays 135 571 69 175 73 27 115 .306
2022 Blue Jays 159 652 91 189 93 41 155 .290

2019 Blue Jays 46 196 32 61 21 14 50 .311

But what is he projected to hit in 2026 and coming off a knee injury? Baseball-Reference doesn't see it as a down year for him in their current projections:

R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
63 146 31 2 15 70 6 95 .288 .335 .446 .780
