💰 Best NRFI bets tonight for Wednesday

Blue Jays vs. Yankees NRFI (-140) - 7:05 p.m. ET

  • Trey Yesavage (1.40 ERA) vs. Cam Schlittler (1.35 ERA)
  • NRFI records: Blue Jays (24-24) vs. Yankees (21-28)

From the regular season to the playoffs last year, Yesavage has been simply unhittable versus the pinstripes. New York went 0-for-15, striking out 62% of the time in his lone regular-season start in 2025, giving me all the confidence in the world he can get us three simple outs. On the other side is another young gun in Schlittler, who's the favorite on the Cy Young odds board. Against an anemic offense, he'll do just fine in the first frame.

Dodgers vs. Padres NRFI (-110) - 8:40 p.m. ET

  • Shohei Ohtani (0.82 ERA) vs. Randy Vasquez (2.68 ERA)
  • NRFI records: Dodgers (26-23) vs. Padres (33-15)

Ohtani has allowed just four earned runs in his last 44 innings pitched - is that good? This Padres lineup owns a .269 xBA against him across 59 plate appearances, but with an average exit velo of 84.8 MPH, I'll take my chances that the best pitcher in baseball can get us three outs. Vasquez has owned the Dodgers, too, with Kyle Tucker, Ohtani, and Freddie Freeman going a combined 2-for-15 against him lifetime. Let's sweep the board today, shall we?

💡 How I'm betting NRFI picks tonight (May 20)

Follow all of our MLB analysis and expert predictions for baseball season.

No matter the day, I look at how a pitcher matches up specifically to the lineup he's taking on. What's their expected batting average against him? What's their strikeout rate? What's each team's NRFI record? More specifically, how do the top three batters fare against a specific pitcher? These are all thoughts that need to run through your mind before placing a high-variance bet like a NRFI, and slide your units accordingly.

❓ NRFI betting FAQ

What does NRFI mean in baseball betting?

NRFI stands for "No Run First Inning." It's a popular MLB bet that neither team will score in the first inning of a game, and the bet settles after just six outs (three per half-inning).

What does YRFI mean?

YRFI stands for "Yes Run First Inning" - the opposite of an NRFI. This MLB prop bet cashes if there's at least one run by either team in the first inning.

What should I look for when betting NRFIs?

Each team's starting pitcher is the biggest factor in cashing a NRFI bet, but you should also focus on each team's NRFI records (home vs. away) and each lineup's first-inning tendencies. Recent form can also play a bigger role than full-season numbers.,
