Bronx Bomber Paul Goldschmidt is not only one of the hottest hitters in the New York Yankees lineup, but he is also facing a left-handed pitcher, which signals an automatic play as of of my best home run predictions today.

Along with Goldschmidt, I am backing one of the Chicago White Sox’ most feared sluggers while fading Troy Melton, who allowed four home runs in his last start. With my last two MLB home run picks, I am siding with an NL slugger who has some of the sport’s best numbers over the last three weeks, and an AL hitter who is amid the league’s longest active hitting streak.

💣 Best home run predictions & odds today

Home run pick: Paul Goldschmidt (+375)

Paul Goldschmidt has a whopping 235 wRC+ against left-handed pitchers, which he’ll put to use against Andrew Abbott. To put that in perspective, the gap between him and the next-closest hitter (Miguel Vargas, 204) is bigger than the difference between second and ninth.

Prior to going 1-for-4 and extending his hitting streak to 10 games in the series finale against the White Sox, Goldschmidt had homered in back-to-back games. He was also batting .339 with 10 home runs and 30 RBI in his previous 34 games, and had the third-best average in the majors since May 5 (min. 125 PA).

📡 SBR Edge: Goldschmidt dominates southpaws

Paul Goldschmidt also has the major's highest slugging percentage against left-handed pitchers (.727), while ranking sixth in ISO (.333) and 11th in BABIP (.420).

🔥 More home run predictions today

Home run pick: Colson Montgomery (+800)

After finishing fifth in last year’s American League Rookie of the Year voting, Colson Montgomery needs one more long ball to tie his rookie mark. Montgomery’s 21 home runs last year came in 71 games, which extrapolates to 48 homers over a full 162-game season.

Montgomery entered this series having hit three home runs in his previous two games, and seven home runs with 11 RBI and a 1.074 OPS in 14 games since May 30

Montgomery should take advantage of a matchup against Troy Melton, as the righty allowed four solo home runs in just five innings of his last start against the Twins. Melton should see further regression as his 4.34 xERA is much higher than his actual 2.81 ERA.

Home run pick: Bryce Eldridge (+525)

Bryce Eldridge entered this series amid an eight-game hit streak, while batting .419 with four home runs and 10 RBI over that span. Going further back, he also hit safely in 17 of his last 18 games.

Eldridge also entered on a 22-game on-base streak, while batting .403 with a .489 on-base percentage since May 23 (both are the best in MLB, min. 90 PA).

Eldridge faces Max Meyer, who may have begun to regress from an unsustainable home ERA. After allowing two home runs in his last start at LoanDepot Park, Meyer’s ERA at home is 1.97, and his hard-hit rate allowed is now in the 20th percentile.

Home run pick: Zack Gelof (+525)

Zack Gelof is amid a 23-game hit streak, the longest by an Athletics player since Miguel Tejada’s 24-game streak in 2002.

Gelof slashed .229/.283/.424 with six home runs and a 91 wRC+ over his first 38. But over the next 21, Gelof’s slash line improved to .370/.414/.630 with five home runs and a 187 wRC+.

Gelof’s .372 batting average since May 26 is the seventh-highest (min. 60 PA), and he ranks 11th among position players with a 1.3 fWAR over that span. He especially excels against non-fastballs, as his .750 slugging percentage on those pitches is the eighth-highest since the start of May 26 (min. 25 PA).
