⚾ MLB Player Props Today: Best Bets & Prop Picks for Wednesday, April 1
Last Updated: April 1, 2026 8:15 AM EDT • 5 minute read X Social Google News Link
All 30 Major League Baseball teams are in action on a loaded Wednesday slate that features 13 games in the early or late-afternoon slate, so bettors should be sure to get their wagers in early. Most teams' aces that started on Opening Day are once again toeing the rubber today, including the two reigning Cy Young Award winners.
My MLB player props today include my top plays on a former Cy Young Award winner (Chris Sale), and a pitcher that could end up with one in his career if he continues his hot start (Cam Schlittler). I also back a prop involving new Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman, while expecting an NL East ace to cool off a hot division rival’s bat.

💰 Best MLB player prop bet today
Chris Sale Over 7.5 strikeouts (-145)
The Athletics struck out 57 times as a team through the first four games, the most of any team since 1900. Things shouldn’t get easier when facing Chris Sale, who led the league in K/9 rate four different times in his career, and as recently as two years ago.
Sale struck out six batters in six innings in his debut, while limiting the Royals to just a .231 BABIP. He should have little difficulty pitching to the 32.1% strikeout rate or better he has finished with in each of the last two seasons.
📡 SBR Edge: The Pesky Athletics?
Chris Sale has a 9.7 K/9 rate in his career against the Athletics, one of three teams against whom his K/9 rate isn't in double digits.
🔥 More MLB player prop picks
Joey Wiemer Under 0.5 hits (+129)
Joey Wiemer started the season by reaching base safely in 10 consecutive plate appearances, tying for the most consecutive plate appearances to start a season since 1951. He also had three straight multi-hit games during which he went 8-for-10 with two home runs, a triple, four RBIs, five runs, and three walks.
Despite the hot start and the fact that Wiemer has a 3.042 OPS against left-handed pitching, I expect him to be brought down to earth against NL Cy Young Award odds leader Cristopher Sanchez. The southpaw allowed just three hits over six innings while striking out 10 on Opening Day, and induced a 63.6% ground ball rate.
Sanchez’s ground ball rate has increased each of the last four seasons, and that should limit the damage Wiemer and the Nationals should do just two days after scoring 13 runs against the Phillies (t-4th most in series history).
Alex Bregman Over 1.5 total bases (+168)
Alex Bregman is just one game removed from hitting his first two home runs as a Cub. He now gets a juicy matchup against Angels southpaw Yusei Kikuchi, whom he has tagged for a .350/.536/.800 slash line in 20 at-bats.
Five of Bregman’s seven hits off Kikuchi have gone for extra bases, and he is coming off a season where he batted .319 with a .855 OPS against southpaws. His 1.089 OPS in April was also by far his highest of any month last season, so I expect the third baseman to start the month off right away with a big day.
🧢 Looking for more action at the plate?
My Mets vs. Cardinals prediction highlights two players that should have an okay day at the plate as we work toward the Over cashing.
Cam Schlittler Under 1.5 earned runs (+100)
In 2025, Cam Schlittler had an average velocity of 98.0 mph on his 4-seam fastball, 97.6 on his sinker, and 92.0 on his cutter. In his season debut on Friday, those average velocities were up to 98.5 mph on his 4-seam fastball, 98.2 on his sinker, and 95.0 on the cutter. In addition, his 98.0 mph average fastball velocity since 2025 was the seventh-fastest in the majors among pitchers who threw a minimum of 750 fastballs.
Schlittler actually pitched better on the road than at Yankee Stadium last year. His OBA and ERA were 56 points and 0.36 runs better, respectively, away from home.
I have confidence in Schlitter rebounding from one of his worst starts of the season last year when he allowed four hits (two of them home runs) in 5 ⅓ innings to the Mariners.
🚀 Best MLB parlay picks today
This four-leg parlay offers the perfect blend of trends with players in favorable matchups with Sale versus the Athletics and Bregman facing Kikuchi, and other players like Wiemer who are due for positive regression. Since DraftKings offers the best odds for Wiemer and Bregman, I am willing to back Sale's increased strikeout total.
With the last leg involving Schlittler, I am hoping his increased velocity makes for a nice bounce-back start after a poor outing against Seattle last year.

💡 How I'm betting MLB player props today (April 1)
Follow all of our MLB analysis and expert predictions for baseball season.
All four wagers are one-unit plays, though I wouldn't put anyone off backing Sale's alternate strikeout total. Toronto's Dylan Cease and Kevin Gausman recorded 11 and 12 strikeouts, respectively, last week against the Athletics, and DraftKings is offering +177 odds (carrying a 36.1% implied probability) for Sale to finish with a double-digit strikeout total.
Given Bregman's penchant for extra-base hits against Kikuchi, I also found more value in the +168 odds for him to record at least two total bases than the +111 odds for him to record at least a combination of two hits, runs, and RBIs.
